911 for home repair

Are you hosting a holiday party this season? My wife and I are, and there's a lot to do before we open our door to our friends and relatives. We're painting the kitchen, repairing some tile in the guest bath, and cleaning every carpet, floor and surface in the house. We're lucky, though, because I've got years of home improvement experience and my wife's as handy as the day is long.

But many of you aren't so lucky, and you'll need a hand preparing your home in anticipation of Aunt Myrtle's arrival, homemade fruit cake in hand. That's where Sears Home Services can come in handy. I hired them for the demolition phase of a gut-to-the-studs bath remodel I did a couple of decades ago, and I couldn't have been happier with the price or the results.

So if you find yourself needing some help this holiday season with almost anything around the house, click the link above or call 1-800-424-2047 to schedule the service you need.

I am very pleased with the performance of the Micro hood serial No. 72180883400. However, I observed that recently when I place food items to heat, the food timer will display F9 and the microhood will shut down. Is there a major problem with the microwave. Can it be adjusted at home. Please advise. Thank u.

Hi Carol Smith, I'm Cameron a Sears Blue Service Crew member. It can be problematic when our appliances start giving us errors, and we're unsure as to why. With a Kenmore microhood, the reason you might be seeing an F9 error code can be related to a number of things. The F9 error code relates directly to a power surge or interruption. This can be anything from the wiring in the wall to the device, a power interruption or short within the microhood at a relay, wiring, or magnetron. You can find more information on the error at our sister site ManageMyLife.com. I found this link that proved quite helpful: http://media.fotki.com/1_p,wfswkqqdkwwqtsfxgtqsskgwtqkq,vi/gwrsfbktgxgwkrkqkdg/1/1303472/5961857/image7690img-or.gif. Based on the information here, I would recommend having your microhood serviced by a qualified technician, as working on microwaves is inherently dangerous. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us at 1-800-424-2047.

I have a Sears clothes dryer in my garage that I am not using. I think a critter (mouse maybe) got in it and passed away. Terrible odor coming from dryer. How can I take it a part safely to check inside dryer for anything?

This is Kevyn with the Sears Blue Service Crew. John, I would like to assist you with your washer. There is not a manual we have available that give disassembly instructions. But you can view the parts schematic online to get an idea of what you need to do. Just go to www.SearsPartsDirect.com, type in your complete model number on the right-hand side in the model number box, then just select the different parts subcomponent diagrams. Please make sure all power to the unit is disconnected. Also, pay close attention to how it is put together before you take it apart so you can put it back together correctly. If you have anymore questions, please call us at 1-800-424-2047.

I have a Kenmore Elite side by side Refridgerator that has a water & ice dispenser on the door. The locking mechanism is coming on all by itself which prevents me from getting any ice or water. To turn it off you have to press for about 3 seconds. Later, it will be locked again! What to do?

Hello Mr. Boudreau, this is Kevyn from the Sears Blue Service Crew. It sounds like there might be a control board issue. Although you could just leave it the way it is and unlock it every time you need it, I recommend having someone come fix that. There might be a more serious underlying problem that needs attention. If you would like to have one of our technicians take a look at your unit, please call us at 1-800-424-2047.
