Our expert team can answer your toughest questions
Every day, I correspond with visitors to our web sites who are looking for answers. Sometimes it's a microwave that's on the blink or a washing machine that won't spin. Whether it's a lawn mower quandary, water heater snafu or an owner's manual mystery, you can count on us to help.
It's an interesting job, to say the least. One minute I'm helping a guy whose garage door opener won't budge his door even though two of his neighbors' openers make his door go up and down just fine. The next I'm working with our team of experts to troubleshoot an elderly woman's ice maker that's making an odd groaning sound.
No matter what your need, you can come to us for sound advice and helpful information for any problem around your home. Reach out to our experts on www.ManageMyLife.com or drop a line to ManageMyHomeBob on Twitter. Either way, you'll get the help you need when you need it.

I have a sears kenmore microwave, Model 665 6969 2992 stopped in mid cycle, started buzzing, and trouble code -j6- showed on display. Can you tell me what this means?
Posted by Bob Batchelor on March 04, 2010 at 08:43 PM CST #
Hello Bob, this is Tino with the Sears Blue Service Crew and I would like to thank you for submitting your question. I completely understand how a situation like this can be puzzling and I'm here to help. I did find that the error code displayed in your microwave is indicating a power failure within the unit itself which varies from a minor power surge to a component like the magnetron going out. I recommend to try the hardwire reset which is turning the breaker to your microwave off for a full 2 minutes. The reason you turn the breaker off rather then unplugging it is because when the breaker is off, all power is shut off in the outlet. When you turn the breaker back on, it will restart the energy in the outlet and in turn restart the microwave itself. Then try warming something up in the microwave and hopefully the error code does not return. If it comes up again, I definitely recommend getting our technicians to look at it. You can contact us at 1-800-424-2047 where any of our associates will gladly get you taken care of, or you can set the service up on our www.SearsHomeServices.com website. I hope this information helps!

We have a Kenmore Elite Range Model 790.9802. We ran the self clean cycle for the first time. Now, the lower oven has stopped working. There's not any error messages. I've seen some posts about other models where this happened and the problem was with the safety thermostat. Could this be the problem with my oven. If so, where is the safety thermostat and how can I check if it needs replaced?
Posted by Jill on March 26, 2010 at 08:22 PM CDT #
Hi Jill. I'm Kevyn, a Sears Blue Service Crew member. This is very interesting, because there can be several causes for what is going on here. The computer may think the door locking mechanism is activated, part of the control board may not be working properly, the oven door switch or the oven sensor may be faulty. It is difficult to give the exact cause for the symptom your appliance is having. I recommend having a professional diagnose the problem for you. If you would like to check the oven sensor as you mentioned, open the oven door and remove the oven temperature sensor probe from the back wall inside the oven cavity. The oven temperature sensor can be tested using an ohm meter. Check the resistance of the oven sensor at room temperature. It should measure approximately 1080 ohms if it is okay. If it tests okay, I would recommend replacing the oven control board. If it does not measure approximately 1080 ohms, then I would recommend replacing the oven sensor. You are able to find and order parts online at www.SearsPartsDirect.com. Your oven control board part number is 316576300; your oven temperature sensor part number is 316217002. If you need further assistance or have any other questions, please give us a call at 1-800-424-2047.

I just needed some information about my fridge problem because I believe it is something that I could fix myself if I had some advice. Here is my problem, I have an Amana fridge with the freezer on the bottom. The freezer portion is staying cool like it is supposed to however the fridge is not gettign as cold as it needs to anymore and my food is spoiling rather quickly. I read somewhere that the return air vent or something may be frozen shut and that I should turn the fridge off for a while so it can thaw. Please let me know if this sounds like the right fix or if there is something else I should do. Thank-you in advance.
Posted by Robert on March 31, 2010 at 08:00 AM CDT #
Hello Robert, this is Kevyn from the Sears Blue Service Crew. You're welcome! Defrosting your unit would actually work. If you have another place to store your food for the time being, this is a quick-fix for the problem your refrigerator has. The freezer on most refrigeration units is the main source of cool air. The air is then blown through the vents into the refrigerator section to cool the food. If your unit has electronic controls, the problem could be caused from the main board not sending a signal to the damper. That damper could be stuck or broke, or the thermistors may have failed. An ohms check would need to be made on the thermistor. At 32 degrees the thermistor should read approximately 8750 ohms. To check this, the control board needs to be accessed by dropping the control housing. Before attempting to check the thermistor, be sure to disconnect power from the unit. When you have access to the board, locate connector CN3 and disconnect the tan/white wire and the orange wire. Now take an ohms reading across these 2 wires. If the reading is more than 5% off, the thermistor will need to be replaced. If it's ok, the control board will need to be replaced. Another possibility is the return air being restricted. If this happens, the air flow will be very slow and it will not matter if it has electronic or mechanical controls. A good way to determine if this is the problem is to feel the air flow coming out of the air diffuser. While checking it, open the freezer door or drawer. If the air flow increases with the freezer section open, the return air is restricted. If the air flow remains the same, the problem will be one of the above mentioned possibilities. I am giving you this information because just defrosting your fridge may not ultimately fix the cause of the problem. You can check the parts schematics online at www.SearsPartsDirect.com. This will give you a closer look at all the parts you may need to deal with. It's difficult to give specific information since there was no model number provided in your comment. If you need more assistance or if you would like one of our technicians to come to your home and fix the problem, we would love to help. You can give us a call at 1-800-424-2047.

I have a Kenmore Model 106.72203200. Recently my wife turned the temperature way down (dial to 7) and left it there. After a few months of this she noticed water in the fridge. It became obvious that this was coming from the air diffuser bottom periodically. I have turned the freezer setting back to 4 over the last few days. Unfortunately it still perodically drips (about once per day), presumably due to melting ice during the defrost cycle. Will this solve itself, or do I need to take it apart to clean it.

I have had my mower for a few year and have changed plugs, filters and oil on a regular basis. I love the cut but when I stop to dump the bag, my mower becomes very difficult to start. I will start just fine when its cold but not when its warm.
Can anyone out there help me?

Posted by Douglas G. Abernathy on April 12, 2010 at 08:47 AM CDT #
Joseph, this is Tino with the Sears Blue Service Crew and I would like to thank you for submitting your question. I understand how puzzling it can be when your reprogramming your garage door opener and I will be happy to assist you. The symptoms that you described indicate that one of your remotes is broken. To determine which remote needs to be replaced, follow these steps:
If you have an outside key pad, program this keypad first. Once you have the keypad programmed, take one of the remotes and program this one. If the key pad is not working after the remote is programmed, then this is the broken remote. If the keypad still operates, then reprogram your second remote. If the second remote operates but your key pad or number one remotes does not work, then your second remote is the broken one.
Should you not have an outside key pad, and then I recommend that you purchase a new remote. Program the new remote first. Then program another remote that will work with the new remote.
Posted by Tino P. on April 12, 2010 at 04:48 PM CDT #
This is Tino with the Sears Blue Service Crew. Douglas I would like to assist you because I understand how having your lawn mower not starting can be very puzzling and I will be happy to assist you. Some things that can cause your mower not to start would be old or bad gas, a gas cap not venting, a bad ignition module, restricted fuel flow to the carburetor, engine overheating because the cooling fins are stopped up or a bad kill switch. I recommend to clean your carburetor out. Over time, debris and build up will collect in the bowl of the carb causing these type problems. If fuel was left in the machine over the winter, that can also cause this type of issue.

I highly recommend to schedule service because the compressor in the a/c unit can be "over working" causing a shortage. Also the wiring to the a/c compressor could be the cause of the breaker shutting off but in either case, it is best to schedule service with our certified technicians. You can schedule service by calling us at 1-800-424-2047 where any of our associates will gladly get you taken care of, or you can create your service on our www.SearsHomeServices.com website.

I have a lawn mower model 917-388340. It will not start unless I stretch the cable way back. it is Part # 168552. does replacing it sound reasonable as a fix?
Posted by Duane on April 15, 2010 at 01:37 PM CDT #
This is Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. Duane, I would like to assist you today. I was able to locate a previously answered question similar to the problem you are experiencing with your Craftsman mower, in the "Expert Answers" section of SearsHomeServices.com. The expert had advised the customer that the reason the mower wouldn't start without the cable pulled back all the way, was because the engine zone control cable had broken or stretched out. Replacing the engine zone control cable may solve your issue, however without being able to physically view the performance of your mower, it is difficult to give you a precise answer. I would definitely recommend scheduling service to avoid the possibility of ordering and returning unnecessary parts. You can schedule service by calling us at 1-800-424-2047 where any of our associates will gladly get you taken care of, or you can create your service on our www.SearsHomeServices.com website.

Hi Ted, I'm Korinna a Sears Blue Service Crew member. I'm disappointed to hear your new treadmill is giving you trouble. I will be more than happy to assist you. From your description there could be a couple reasons causing your Pro-Form to only light up the console and not run. One possibility is there may be a problem with the walk belt drive motor or the belt that goes from the motor to the front roller of the walk belt. Another possibility may be a damaged or disconnected wire that connects the console to the motor. For this type of issue, especially if you are still under warranty, I would strongly recommend scheduling service. Please feel free to call us at 1-800-424-2047 or visit our www.SearsHomeServices.com to schedule service with our certified technicians.

I just brought home a new 4 cycle cultivator, filled the oil & gas & started it right up. The problem is that the tines will not turn on this brand new cultivator. When I give it more gas, the engine bogs down like the bottom end is locked up. Is there a shipping bolt somewhere that I missed? Looking through this forum I noticed that I'm not the first person posting this same problem with their new cultivator.

I have a Weslo Cadence 970 treadmill that was purchased at Sears many years ago. Recently when I was walking on it, it all of a sudden started speeding up very fast and I had to turn shut it off. It was a few days before I got back on it. Now when I try to get on it, I'll turn it on and then after about 10-15 seconds the speed shows EEE and it stops running. I'm trying to find out what might be the problem with it and if it would be worth trying to fix. I'd hate to have to get another one, but I'm looking for any advice you may have. Thank you.

Hello.
Our elliptical exercise machine clacks loudly when in use. The swivel point for the handrails is either damaged or poorly engineered. The axle slides back and forth about 1/8". I have tried to tighten the bolts on the ends but they do not move. Do I need to add a gasket?
Also, the tension adjustment knob turns but has no effect on the amount of resistance during use. It is stuck on a point that is a little difficult for my mother to use, as she is only beginning her exercise program. Any advice is appreciated. I have no idea where to look to find a response as there seems to be no forum here. Please email me with your suggestions. Thanks and have a great day.

Hi Aerond, I'm Tino a Sears Blue Service Crew member. I completely understand the importance in having your elliptical working properly and I will be happy to assist you. Without a model number, I will only be able to provide you with some general information and it sounds as if the bearings are going out which may be causing the noise. Since the resistance is giving you some trouble, the most likely cause of this is the tension cable which may need
to be replaced. If this does not fix this problem, I recommend to schedule service with our certified technicians or you can visit our www.ManageMyLife.com website to ask our experts. This is Tino with the Sears Blue Service Crew. Theresa I would like to assist you with this because I completely understand the inconvenience in having your treadmill not working properly. The EEE code indicates a problem with the treadmill correctly reading the speed of the belt. That is often something as simple as a dirty reed/optic switch or magnet or reed switch out of position. If you unplug the unit and remove the motor hood you can visually check if anything is blocking the slot of the optic disc. Typically it is simply dust that has collected and causes the issue. The simplest solution might be to vacuum the area as you manually turn the belt to get all the dust out. If this does not help, I recommend to schedule service with our certified technicians. Feel free to call us at 1-800-424-2047 where any of our associates will gladly get you taken care of, or you can create your service on our www.SearsHomeServices.com website.

Our Kenmore dryer makes 60 hz buzzing sound. Buzz is related to the Start button. The buzz almost stops when the Start button pushed. It returns when button released. Any ideas? Thanks.
Posted by Rick Hasselberg on April 23, 2010 at 04:11 PM CDT #
Hello Rick, this is Kevyn from the Sears Blue Service Crew. I can see how this problem could get very annoying. Turn the circuit breaker switch off for at least 3 minutes. This should reset any error in the machine. It is difficult to make diagnostic check without a complete model number. From the sound of the problem, if turning off the circuit breaker does not fix the dryer, you may need to have a technician come find the exact cause. It may be a wire connection, the switch to the buzzer or even the electronic control. To schedule an appointment, please use the home page of our website, www.SearsHomeServices.com or give us a call directly at 1-800-424-2047.

Posted by Yolanda on June 20, 2010 at 12:08 PM CDT #
Hi, Yolanda. I'm Kevyn, a Sears Blue Service Crew member. I can completely see how this is a major inconvenience. When something like that happens, the problem could be several things. First, turn the circuit breaker off for at least three minutes. This will hopefully reboot the machine, at the same time ensuring that the breaker switch is making a connection and has not been tripped. If that does not work, the power outage could have damaged the control board or other components inside the refrigerator. For this, I would recommend having a professional technician come to your home and repair your appliance. You can schedule an appointment by using the home page of our website, www.SearsHomeServices.com or by calling us directly at 1-800-424-2047. I hope this information helps!

This is Cameron with the Sears Blue Service Crew. Teri F., I'd like to help you with your question. When an issue is intermittent, it's actually pretty difficult to tell where the problem is. Often, with something like what you're describing, the resolution would be to replace the entire ice maker assembly. You might also find some really good answers by submitting this question along with more details over at www.ManageMyLife.com. Some really useful information would include a model number of the fridge or ice maker.

Hello, Maritza. My name is Cameron and I'm with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I looked up the information for your treadmill. It's important, because many of the new treadmills come with a pre-lubricated belt, and you're not supposed to lube the belt, but to replace the belt. There is a maintenance kit carried in most Sears stores that includes the Proform approved lubricant, if necessary.
As far as for why your belt keeps stopping when you're running, this could be a few things. You didn't make it clear whether the belt simply stops rotating or the machine turns off. If the belt is just stopping, it might need lubed, it might also need tighted, which can be down with an allen wrench at the rear of the walking platform. If the entire system is shutting down, it's probably an electrical short somewhere. You may also want to check the condition of the drive belts under the front motor cover.
Please send us an email to contactus@searshomeservices.com or call us at 1-800-424-2047 if you need further help.

Hey there, I've got a Kenmore Tumble-dry front-loading clothes washer that won't go into a high-speed spin during the rinse cycle. I've had this problem before due to too much soap. I've cleaned out the water (no soap now). Suggestions? Is there a way to reset the control panel?
Posted by Glen on June 30, 2010 at 11:23 AM CDT #
Hi Glen. I'm Kevyn, a Sears Blue Service Crew member. I see how this can be a confusing issue. To reset the control, flip the circuit breaker switch to the off position for at least three full minutes. When you turn it back on, it should be reset. This may or may not be this issue, though. The problem could actually be within the motor control board itself. If flipping the breaker does not help, I would recommend getting a technician to your home to diagnose the machine. My husband was cutting grass with his Craftsman riding mower and ran into a concrete well cover with one of the front tires. Whatever holds the two front tires together so that they turn together and go in the same direction is not working. The wheels are moving independant of each now. They can be moved back into position, but if you drive forward, they tow out. Is there something that can be fixed, replaced by doing it ourselves? What should we look for that may be broke or disconnected?

10.236.95.27, this is Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I'm happy to help you today. Without physically being there to look at the substance, it's kind of hard to determine what it is and where it came from. I highly doubt it's a Freon leak. If it was a leak, there would be oil everywhere and not just on the compressor and it wouldn't be cooling properly. I'm assuming the freezer is functioning properly, since you did not indicate otherwise. It's possible it could be from a previous repair, if you did not purchase the freezer brand new. If this is something that is truly bothering you, I would recommend having a technician come out to inspect your freezer. If you would like to schedule a repair, give us a call at 1-800-424-2047. I have a Kenmore dishwasher (Model 665.13742K601) that seems to have a venting problem. The vent that releases steam during the drying cycle collects moisture and when I open the door it spills out onto the floor in a small puddle (annoying). Because of this collection of moisture the vent is also black and moldy looking unless I clean it with an old toothbrush. Also, the dishwasher is getting a brown 'burnt' looking patch above the vent which I assume is also from the steam. Is this normal?
Thank you for your help!
Posted by Juanita Richter on July 08, 2010 at 03:58 PM CDT #
Hello, Juanita Richter. This is Cameron with the Sears Blue Service Crew. Sounds like a definite annoyance with that steam from your dishwasher. When you've got a front venting washer, you're going to have steam come out the vent as well as gather there, so it drip out when the door is opened after a wash. I have a link here about cleaning that sort of dishwasher vent, as you also mentioned your concern with mildew build up there:
http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/questions/118173-thoroughly-clean-steam-vent-kenmore-dishwasher
Now, for the discoloration above the vent...this is more and more common in modern days, as we have dishwashers where we don't have to wash our dishes first. So, when we get that steam, it mixes with the food particles of what was put in the dishwasher, and then this travels up and can stain the dishwasher or cabinet above it. Also, the heat from the steam will bleach the plastic of the control panel. With a black control panel, test a small spot with a black sharpie, and you may be able to do a temporary touch up.
From my experience, and doing a lot of searching, I wasn't able to find anything about a dishwasher releasing too much steam. You might find a suggestion by asking the experts over at www.ManageMyLife.com. For further assistance, please reply ehre, email us at contactus@searshomeservices.com, or give us a call at 1-800-424-2047

Posted by Sharon Buck on July 12, 2010 at 12:41 PM CDT #
Hi Diane, I'm Jon a Sears Blue Service Crew member. I know how much concern a none cooling refrigerator can bring. According to your symptoms, it sounds like you either have a wire harness plug disconnected from the main power control board in your control box or you have a failed main power control board. If you are able to unplug the refrigerator and access this control board, you can check the wire harness connections. If you want to take a chance that this is the failure and replace the control board yourself, you can order the part from the Sears Parts website www.SearsPartsDirect.com with the model number. If you have any further questions or would like to schedule service please feel free to call us here at Sears Home Services at 1-800-424-2047.
Posted by Jon B. on July 12, 2010 at 01:22 PM CDT #
Hello, Rob. This is Cameron with the Sears Blue Service Crew. Troubleshooting a dishwasher is rarely a fun--but often exciting--event. You didn't provide a model number, so I cannot be sure exactly how this dishwasher is made. Based on standard makes, however, when a dishwasher isn't getting any water, the problem is usually within a few areas. The first thing to inspect is the float, which should be in the front right corner of the dishwasher. Make sure it moves freely, that nothing is stuck below it or it is not jammed in the up position. When the float is up, the dishwasher believes it's already full of water, so it won't allow more water in. Next, you'll want to be sure the water supply is properly connected--this is definitely some place to look if this new dishwasher has never worked. After that, the safety switch that works in conjunction with the float could have failed, a problem with the water inlet valve, or a problem with the control board itself. Should you require further assistance, please reply here, send us an email at contactus@searshomeservices.com or give us a call at 1-800-424-2047.

My GE refrigerator's freezer seems had some problem to get cold since yesterday afternoon. The food in the freezer are soft as opposed to usual "toughness". Even though I adjusted the cold/warm sign to "5" and turned on "turbol cool" button. It did not seem to work either. FYI, I replaced the PC board about 2 years ago for this fridge when the similar problem happened.

The light went out in my Frigidaire refigerator; it is about 12 years old. I changed the light, but it did not come back on. Is there a fuse that needs to be changed rather than or in addition ro changing the bulb? The refrigerator still keeps things cold and frozen without any problems.

This is Cameron with the Sears Blue Service Crew. In regards to the GE refrigerator that isn't getting cold...You've probably seen me say it before, but there really are a number of things that could be causing this. Without a model number, we can't see which refrigerator you have, so we can't see how it's made. In the most general terms, when a refrigerator stops cooling as well as it has been, there are a few things to consider. First, check the coils under the unit. Make sure to clean these up. They're like magnets for dust, pet hair, and all sorts of small things. When they get covered with dust and dirt, the machine can't cool properly. This is actually a very common thing to consider. Some models have one fan, some have two. If either of these fans stops operating, we're going to see an issue with cooling. It's also worthwhile to verify the door seals are okay--take a dollar bill and put it between the door and the cabinet. Try this at the top, bottom, and side of each door. The dollar bill should not move while the door is closed. After that, you could be looking at a sealed system issue--perhaps a compressor or needing a refrigerant recharge. It could be a temperature control or control module issue as you mentioned you previously swapped out. Also, try and take power away from the fridge and bring it back on after a minute or so--this might kick start the system. When it comes to trouble shooting the control and internal components, we would always recommend a qualified technician perform the diagnostics and repair.

Hello, Stephanie. My name is Cameron and I'm with the Sears Blue Service Crew. Without a model number, I can't be exactly sure of how your refrigerator is made. Based on your description, though, it seems like it has a problem in either the light socket/harness or the wiring to that part. With the model number, you can see a schematic on http://www.SearsPartsDirect.com.

We have a HE2 Front loading Automatic washer.
During a laundry cycle it stopped and the Rinse, Spin & Clean Clothes lights are flashing as are all the lights on the circular "Cycle Selection" dial.
There is some water remaining in the tub. When I removed everything and restarted it ( after unplugging the unit for 30 sec's) on "Drain & Spin" nothing occurs.
The drain hose is clear and approx 1 yard in hieght from the ground.
No unusual noises have ben heard.
Any suggestions as to the problem?/

Ken, this is Cameron with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I can imagine what a nightmare you're going through with the washer acting up on you like that. The flashing lights are a code for the error the machine is detecting. You didn't mention if the lights were still flashing after you did a power cycle on the washer. I have provided a link below that tells how to read the error codes from the lights. From what you've mentioned, it seems like an F28 Serial Communications Error. The link also contains some great troubleshooting information:

mower type zt 7000 mod # 107.27774 mower runs but if i endage the blades or move ground speed levers to travel the engine stops. seat sw is pluged in and shows closed when seat is empty & open when i sit on it.
Posted by wayne on July 17, 2010 at 03:21 PM CDT #
Hi Wayne, I'm Jon a Sears Blue Service Crew member. That generally is going to be a seat switch problem. It could be the switch itself or the plug to the switch. Unplug the seat safety switch and make sure when you plug it back in that it's secure. If you have a multi-meter you will want to meter out the switch to make sure it's good. For more information please feel free to call us directly at Sears Home Services at 1-800-424-2047.

I have a dryer Kenmore 417.94152500. I live in Argentina, the energy sully here is 220v instead of 110v. However I'm using an energy converter. The problem with dryer is that the Start's light is blinking but the dryer doesn't start.

My Kenmore model 580.53509300 Dehumidifier is not working. The fan and unit is on but the bucket is not filling with water. It had been functioning fine in it's current basement location, but just stopped collecting water within the last few days. The serial number is 309TA04400. I am not sure of the purchase date and am hoping you can look it up based on serial number. I'd like to know what's involved in getting it fixed. Thanks, Brian
Posted by Brian on July 20, 2010 at 08:28 PM CDT #
Hello, Adri. My name is Cameron, and I work with the Sears Blue Service Crew. Having a dryer that won't start isn't going to do anyone any good. The things that immediately come to mind are the thermal limiter or wiring. You said that you're using a 220v hook-up with a transformer that limits output to 110v. This is never an ideal situation, and it doesn't always work. It is possible too much electricity could have made its way through the transformer and done some damage. I can imagine it's going to be pretty difficult finding someone familiar with a Kenmore dryer in Argentina. I would actually recommend submitting a question to the experts over at www.ManageMyLife.com. They would probably be able to give you some guidance on which testing to do and how to do it. You'll need a multi-meter. Check out the machine as well. There is often a wiring diagram on the back or just inside and under the frame.
Please reply here or send us an email at www.SearsHomeServices.com, if you require further assistance.

Hi, Brian. It's Cameron again, with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I've been through a few dehumidifiers in my day...before I moved to the desert. With something like what you're describing, I'd check the coils and see if they're frozen over. If so, let the machine thaw out, and it should start working again. If the coils look okay. it could be something in the wiring or one of the internal components has quit. I see that this unit has a digital display. You didn't mention how that's set. If there was a recent power outage or surge, it's possible the settings need re-set, so that's a great place to start too. If it's been awhile since you've set the controls, I have a copy of the manual for you at the link below:
http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/owner_manuals/21861/KENMORE-Dehumidifier-L0306063?brand_name_search=0.53509300
If you're unable to correct the issue, this would be something serviced at our local repair unit. You can go to http://searshomeservices.com/repair and follow the steps in the blue box to the right. On the second screen, it will show you the closest drop off locations or repair centers to your zip code.

I have a Kenmore Elite Ultra Wash dishwasher. Lately, things on the top rack aren't clean. I have to rinse glasses, etc. The bottom is fine.
Posted by tom g on July 20, 2010 at 11:02 PM CDT #
Hello Tom, this is Kevyn from the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know it is probably getting annoying with having to deal with this. A recent problem that just started usually indicates something is restricting the water flow. Just the upper rack is affected from your complaint so I first recommend you check the water circulation to the top rack. Place four cups on the top rack, one in each corner, right side up. Start the dishwasher and after the fill cycle let the unit run for 45 seconds. All four cups should be full of water. If the cups are not full, this indicates a low water charge or poor circulation. If the water supply is good and the unit is filling properly, I would recommend checking the pump/motor assembly. If the water volume is low, I would recommend checking the water valve and supply pressure. Be sure the feed tube holder is not cracked and is in place. Check your spray arm nozzle holes and make sure none are clogged or partially blocked. Something else to check is suds in the water. During a wash you can pause it and take a look and make sure there is no suds in the water. Excessive suds can lead to poor circulation. Make sure you're not blocking the spray arms with large bowls or cookie sheets. Check the screens and the water level. Water valve screens can become partially blocked and not allow the proper water level. You can even add a glass or two of water and see if it cleans the top rack better. Also, the filter can become partially blocked. I hope this information helps! If you have any other questions or would like to schedule a repair appointment, please give us a call at 1-800-424-2047.

Hello! I have a Proform XP Trainer 580 which I placed in the upright position, now that i want to use it again I can't find where the latch is to place the machine down and I have misplaced the manual. Can you give me an idea of where on the machine to find this latch? Thank you!
Posted by Sharon A. on July 25, 2010 at 09:26 PM CDT #
Hi, Sharon A.! My name is Cameron and I work with the Sears Blue Service Crew. In the upright position, you should be able to see the label with the treadmill's model and serial number on it. Usually, the model number will start with 831. With that model number, we can probably find a manual for you at www.ManageMyLife.com. In most cases, these treadmills have two pins on the side that will need to be pulled out slightly to allow it to drop down. Often, it takes pulling this pins outward while also pulling down on the platform to get the unit back into a usable position. how do I empty the drain pan on model 253.26052103 upright freezer.
Posted by Eddy on July 26, 2010 at 11:22 AM CDT #
Eddy, this is Jon with the Sears Blue Service Crew. The drain pan on your freezer is glued to the compressor. You can't remove it without breaking it. To clean it you have to soak the water out of it with a sponge or cloth. Normally the heat from the compressor will evaporate any water in the pan. If the pan needs cleaning you can use a mild detergent and water to wash it out. For further information please feel free to contact us directly here at Sears Home Services at 1-800-424-2047.

Valued Customer, this is Jon with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know what a tough decision it is when it comes to replacing an appliance; especially one that you’ve had for awhile. To help you make your decision I will let you know washer’s life expectancies are 10-12 years and manufactures only have parts for items for about 10 years. Considering this item was manufactured in 1999 I’d say it’s about time to look into a more energy efficient model. One thing I can recommend is visiting your local Sears store or www.Sears.com to view new models. Craftsman DYT 4000 runs for a while, then the blades stop. A few secounds later, the engine stops. Will not restart, the fuse has blown. Replace the 20A fuse and repeat. What could be causing this?

Hi, it's Cameron with the Sears Blue Service Crew again! I've said it before--a bunch--lawn mower repair took up a good portion of my summers growing up in NE Ohio. I've broken my fair share, too. I haven't quite run along a problem like you're describing with the blades cutting out and then the engine afterward. I've seen things similar, but it's so close, you know it's actually together--power dying from a fuel problem usually. You're running into a blown fuse, and the only thing that's usually going to cause that as far as I know is going to be a surge caused by a short. This would be a great question to ask the experts over at www.ManageMyLife.com. Just login, go to Answers and submit the question. Then, add your details and select a screen name (if you haven't yet, be sure to verify it's available). The experts answer lots of questions everyday, so it could take up to two business days to get back to you. If you can, get them the full model number too--the one from below the mower seat.

I have a proform 495 pi (model: 831.29523.1) that is having speed issues. When i turn it on it automaticly starts very slowly then begins to speed up on its own, little by little. It then proceeds to speed up to full speed but can not be cotrolled by the digital control buttons. Also the emergency magnetic key stop does not stop the treadmill when pulled. The only way to stop it is to completely unplug it. What do you think the problem may be?
Thanks
Posted by Paul G on July 29, 2010 at 10:33 AM CDT #
Hello, Janet. My name is Cameron, and I'm with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I had a fridge awhile back that had the same problem you're describing. In all honesty, I ended up getting a new fridge, as it was a better bet than trying to fix it. This may or may not be the case with what you're experiencing. You didn't provide us with a model number, so I can't see how your refrigerator is made--and not all refrigerators are created equal. There really could be several things going on. The fan could be blowing to much, making it too cold near the fill tube. Usually, this can be detected if there is ice build up on the inner wall near where the tube is filling up. You could have a problem where the inlet valve is letting in too much water, and then that water is trapped in the line where it shouldn't be and gets frozen. Basically, we're going to be looking at either too much water or too much cold. This can be a pretty difficult problem to isolate and correct. I really would recommend having a certified technician come in and take a look at it. You can go to http://www.searshomeservices.com/refrigerators-freezers/repair and follow the steps in the blue box to a right to find what the minimum charge for a service call would be as well as schedule an appointment.

Cameron here from the Sears Blue Service Crew. How are you today, Paul G.? I know it's never fun trying to figure out what's going on with a treadmill when it's working, but just doing some really weird stuff. Now, with the speed issue, we'd normally look at the speed sensor/controller. It works in conjunction with something that looks a lot like a bearing or fly wheel in the motor compartnent. There's a magnet that goes on that side of that bearing that is then connected to a wire that feeds back to the control. Any of these three components could be the issue. The problem could also certainly be in the control console itself, which leads toward a more possible reality when we consider the problem with the magnetic key. At the same time....those keys do wear out, and you might just need a new key, and to find the problem with the speed control. Sears carries a maintenance kit for the treadmills, which includes new safety keys for different models. If you find the problem with the speed control and need a new key, this is probably the way to go. So, you could be looking at one big issue, or two small issues. If you need a new speed sensor for that treadmill, find the model number on the plate which should be on the lower part of the frame next to the treadmill. You'll need to lift it up, if it's one of the incline models.
If we can help you any further, drop us a line here or through email (contactus@searshomeservices.com) or call us on the phone at 1-800-424-2047.

I have a Kenmore Elite 40in Dual Fuel Stove purchased 6 years ago. The ignitor stopped working, however the gas is still flowing out of the stove top. There is not clicking, and I can light the burner with a match. I was wondering if this was a recall issue. It is a serious safety concern because you cannot hear the gas flow, there is no click to light the top. Oven works, Clock, etc all are fine. there are no error messages displayed.

Paul, thanks for getting back with us. It's Cameron with teh Sears Blue Service Crew again. The speed sensor on here is called a reed switch. It's part # 215238 , which shows up on the parts diagram as part number 10. If you look up that model on www.SearsPartsDirect.com, you can zoom in on the image and the shape and location will make a bit more sense to you.
Please let us know if we can still help out.
Posted by Cameron C. on July 29, 2010 at 10:05 PM CDT #
Hi, teri. This is Cameron with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I can totally understand the concern here. I have four kids and can't imagine a gas stove in there that could be turned on and not light. This does happen with some stove designs, but I'd have to look and see if this is how yours is supposed to work or not. I doubt there is a recall, but you could contact the Sears Recall team at 1-800-659-1026. They will require you have the complete model and serial number to be able to verify whether yours is part of any sort of recall.
Most likely, you will just need to replace the ignitor, as the design to have a gas valve flow without the ignitor is still quite acceptable, partially because many consumers have demanded this over the year. In the event their ignitor goes out, or their power goes out--they still want tobe able to use the stove.

THe battery is OK. It just makes a clicking sound when I try to start it. The model number is 917.2710
Posted by Ralph on July 31, 2010 at 01:07 PM CDT #
Ralph, this is Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I'm happy to help you today. I can definitely understand your concerns with your Craftsman lawn tractor not starting. Clicking on a tractor engine usually comes from the starter solenoid. The starter solenoid has a red wire and a red wire from the starter attached to the top of it. You can test the solenoid by putting the tractor in neutral, turn the ignition to run, and short the wire from the battery to the wire from the starter. You should get a spark when the wires are shorted and the starter should turn the engine over. If this happens the starter solenoid is bad.
Since you mentioned that the battery checks out okay, I also recommend you check the wiring for any loose connections. The owner's manual to your mower should have a diagram of the wiring. With the model number you provided, the system is only recognizing it as a partial model number and provided 30 different models. You should be able to locate your manual at www.managemylife.com. The website is completely free and you will need the complete model number to access the manual.
If the these tips don't help, the tractor will likely need to be serviced by a technician. Service may be scheduled at 1-800-424-2047.

I HAVE A LG FRONT LOADER 3 YRS OLD THE DETERGENT DISPENSER WORKED FINE WHILE IT WAS IN THE GARAGE BUT IT STOPPED WORKING WHEN I MOVED IT IN THE HOUSE. NOW IT DOES NOT EMPTY AT ALL, WOULD LIKE INFO. TKS
Posted by rod richard on August 02, 2010 at 05:32 PM CDT #
Hello, Rod Richard. I'm with the Sears Blue Service Crew. My name is Cameron. If I had a quarter for everytime I moved something and it suddenly stopped working properly....I couldn't take a look at your particular washer without a model number, but I can give you some things to look for. A lot of these newer front loaders have a bar inside the dispenser tray that indicates what type of soap to use. Might want to see if your LG washer has a detergent selector and if maybe that's what's going on. After that, I'd be looking at the hoses that lead down to the washer itself from the dispenser and make sure those didn't get knocked out of place. You didn't mention whether you're using powdered or liquid soap. If you're using powdered, be sure both the hot and cold water are turned on to the washer and the powder hasn't gotten damp (often due to humidity) so that it's clumping up and clogging the tray. Also, just double check and take that detergent tray out anyhow, make sure there's no clogs in it.
If we can be of further assistance, please let us know by replying there, sending an email to contactus@searshomeservices.com or calling us at 1-800-424-2047.

Just drained all oil and refilling with new. Shouldn't have to after 4 months, but the oil in the exhaust is my issue. Advice? Thanks.
Posted by Dan on August 07, 2010 at 01:31 PM CDT #
Hi Dan, I'm Jon a Sears Blue Service Crew member. When the engine burns white smoke suddenly, it usually has too much oil in the crankcase. Check the oil level and be sure the oil level is not over the full mark. If the oil level is ok, the oil fill cap might be loose or have a bad gasket. The crankcase breather can also cause the engine to burn oil and create white smoke. For more information please feel free to contact us here at Sears Home Services at 1-800-424-2047.

I just had my compressor replaced on my A/C unit 2 days ago and the house is still warm. The unit constantly runs. What could the problem be?
Posted by 10.236.95.27 on August 08, 2010 at 11:01 AM CDT #
WHEN THE FREEZER DEFROSTS INSTEAD OF DRAINING THE WATER FREEZES
ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FREEZER AND THEN AT SOME POINT IN DEFROST SINCE IT
IS BUILT UP IT RUNS OVER INTO THE TWO HOLES THAT LEAD INTO THE
REFRIGERATOR AND I HAVE WATER ALL OVER THE TOP SHELVES AND DRAINING DOWN
UNDER THE CRISPERS. I HAVE TAKEN IT APART, RUN WATER THROUGH THE DRAIN
HOSE, VACUUMED BEHIND AND UNDER REFRIG. THE DRAIN HOSE DOES NOT APPEAR
TO BE PLUGGED BECAUSE WHEN I RUN WATER THROUGH IT IT DOES COLLECT IN THE
DRAINAGE PAN UNDER THE REFRIGERATOR.

Hi, this is Cameron with the Sears Blue Service Crew again. I know how important a working AC is--especially in this year's heat! The compressor is a major component. It's definitely not going to work without that. It'll take time to get to temp, but two days seems like more than enough time for it to get things cool and start cycling on and off. With it constantly going like that, there's a few things it can be--a thermostat, a control board, wiring. This is definitely something I'd have the technician come back out for. If the work was done by Sears you would be under the 90 service warranty even if the AC unit were under any sort of warranty or protection agreement itself. For assistance with this, give us a call at 1-800-424-2047 or send us an email at contactus@searshomeservices.com

Hello, Charles Slaymaker. My name is Cameron. I'm part of the Sears Blue Service Crew. I have seen a number of fridges that drop water into the fridge like what you're describing, and it can certainly be a real pain (not to mention the mess and ruined food!). Sounds like you checked out a lot of things, and we're typically going to see just a few other options cause this sort of problem. If the gaskets aren't sealing properly, so moisture is getting into the fridge and then accumulating. Also, if there's any ice building up on the walls--particularly the back walls--this is a bad sign, and one of the first places to check would be the evaporator fan. Beyond that, it could be ice in the vents or a misalignment somewhere in the drain system, before it hits the tube. These things are never fun to troubleshoot, as it seems the water only wants to leak and collect when we're not watching it. We would normally recommend having a certified technician take a look at it, which you can schedule by going to http://SearsHomeServices.com/repair and following the steps in the blue box to the right. Great thing is, if the technician comes out, there will be a minimum charge, but if you decide the repair isn't worth it, the technician can supply you with a voucher worth up to $100 toward the purchase of a new fridge.

Would someone let me know when I can renew my service agreement for the next period of time.
Thank you, thank you very much!!!

Hi, Echardell. My name is Cameron, and I am part of the Sears Blue Service Crew. I hate it when a treadmill takes a turn for the worse. I'm not really familiar with the Precor brand, but treadmills in general that act this way usually have one of three things that have gone wrong with them. The easiest and least expensive thing that might have gone wrong is if there is a safety key, perhaps the key or the key switch has failed. Beyond that, it's going to usually be a power or a console problem. You can try plugging the treadmill into a different outlet and see if that corrects the problem. If not, it might need a new power cord or power adapter. A console is usually a couple hundred dollars. So, depending on how new the machine is, and what features you need--replacement of the console versus replacement of the entire machine would only be a question of dollars and cents. We have a Kenmore Elite bottom freezer 596.76532500. The water filter seems stuck, that is, it does not turn counterclockwise. If there is a release button, we cannot find it. If it truly is stuck and I am not incompetent, what cann we do to unstick it?
Posted by Richard on August 08, 2010 at 09:22 PM CDT #
Hello, Richard. My name is Cameron, and I am with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know the agony of trying to swap out some of those water filters. It's not always easy and it's not you. A lot of these machines have their own little quirks. If it's the first time you're changing the filter, it's especially difficult.
A lot of times, I know technicians will actually "tap" the outer edge of the water filter with a rubber mallet or wooden handle such as from a tool, in order for it to release. Even then, it'll take a lot of elbow grease to get that filter to turn counterclockwise. Do be careful, though. The harder it is to get that filter out, the more of a chance there is for that air pressure behind it to be build up, which could cause it to eject once it's loose.

I have a Proform 495 pi model # 831.29523.1
Upon turning it on and choosing a speed it proceeds to run at full speed. I am able to stop it with the stop button and with the emergency key, but when I try to adjust the speed with the up and down buttons or the quick speed change buttons nothing happens. It still continues to run full speed. I asked a local tech and his opinion was a bad motor and a motor controller. He suggested I needed to change them both which would run about $300. If this was the problem, why would I need to change the motor, it seems to be working fine. What is your advice and opinion?
Thanks
Posted by Paul on August 09, 2010 at 09:13 AM CDT #
Paul, this is Jon with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know it’s important to have the right information when replacing parts at this price. I did find that several things can cause the problem you have. The power board, the motor controller, the motor, or a shorted wire in the wire harness can cause the treadmill to run faster than it should without being programmed to run. The only way to diagnose the problem is to check the voltage flow and see which part is turning the motor on. I recommend you schedule service and get a technician to diagnose the problem. To schedule service or for more information I recommend you contact us here at Sears Home Services at 1-800-424-2047.

We have a sears mower with a 3 bagger on it. Lately is has been leaving a trail of grass on the outside and it has also started blowing grass clippings all over on the deck.
We have cleaned out the shoot, the deck and the blades. We do not have original sears blades on it, could that be the problem?
Posted by 10.236.95.27 on August 09, 2010 at 09:55 AM CDT #
Hi Valued Customer, I'm Jon a Sears Blue Service Crew member. I know how important it is to have a working mower in this season and I do have some helpful information to assist you. The blades you mentioned could be the problem. If they are the wrong size the clippings won’t go into the bagger correctly. Another problem could stem from the shaft the blades are on. If this shaft is bent it could clump the clippings together and cause this problem. I would suggest checking these parts and if any parts are needed feel free to visit our sister site www.SearsPartsDirect.com with your model number to view diagrams and purchase parts. Please feel free to contact us here at Sears Home Services if you would like to set service or have further questions at 1-800-424-2047.

Earlier this week the power went out at my house and when I got home from work my water softener was continually running through the drain. I went through the diagnostics and the error code ERR 1 continues to display after the motor goes through cycling for about 10 minutes. I have done all the prep work to isolate the problem (ie., cleaned the venture valve and checked to make sure the motor is functioning and so forth. The only thing I can isolate is the switch may be malfunctioning due to the power loss or surge. Any advice…? I have a Intellisoft 370 series 625.393760 water softener.

Hello - I have a kenmore washer model 100.25842400 and it stops while filling. If I pull the timer knob up and down it will resume filling but then stops again. When it stops, it makes a buzzing sound (not loud). Could the timer be faulty? The washer is only a little over 5 years old - I can't believe I'm having trouble with it already.
Posted by Kate F. on August 15, 2010 at 02:11 PM CDT #
Hi, this Cameron with the Sears Blue Service Crew. Power outages acn really do a number of any of the electronics we need to keep our home running normally. With the ERR 1, after the basic things you've done such as cleaning the venturi, you're typically going to be looking at a failed control itself. Often--particulalry after a power outage--this is visually detectable, by viewing the circuit board and looking for scorches, melted plastic, or blown capcitors. This isn't full proof, but if you do see any of those things, you know for sure that part needs replaced. For further help, reply here on the blog, email contactus@searshomeservices.com, or give us a call at 1-800-424-2047.

Hello, Kate F. My name is Cameron, and I'm part of the Sears Blue Service Crew. I had something similar happen to a washer of mine not too long ago. It's about six years old. I was sure it was the timer too. Turns out, someone who knows better than I came and took a look at it, and there was this small, plastic piece at the bottom of the tub that needed replaced. Only model out there like that, I guess. The point behind this is--while your model doesn't have that part--it sounds like a classic case of either a timer or valve issue. The only way to know for sure, though, would be to have a technician check it out, and you can have that done by scheduling at appointment online at http://www.SearsHomeServices.com/repair

Hello, Kristin. My name is Cameron, and I'm part of the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know what it's like sometimes trying to find a part of something and having a hard time. From your description, it sounds like you're looking for the plates that go onto the inside edges of a bed frame that allow it to "hook" into the slats cut on the inside edges of another part of the bed frame. You can pick these up in some hardware stores, even some Sears Hardware stores. You may need to find a specialty woodworking shop, though, as these have fallen out of style in these age of pre-boxed and ready to assembly furniture. If you're looking for ones that specifically fit in place of ones that have broken off or been bent, it can be a bit harder. This may be something you'll need to order online. We have a specialized team that can help you find whatever you're looking to buy online, too--even if it's not something we carry. The Sears Personal Shopper team is dedicated to helping customers find the perfect items at the best price, and they have a lot of resources at their disposal to do this. They can be reached by phone, chat, or email using this link here: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/dap_10153_12605_DAP_Personal%20Shopper?adCell=W4&prop17=personal%20shopper

Hi, my name is Cameron, and I'm with the Sears Blue Service Crew. Frank Franciosi, I want to help you with the problem you're having here with your water filtration system. I used to work with a lot of motor and industrial hydraulics and pneumatics, so I am pretty sure I know exactly what you're going through with those stubborn O-rings that don't want to go back into place. I'll also send a copy of this to the email you left when entering your blog comment, because it sounds like this is a major undertaking, keeping your house in a bit of chaos and having a major issue without the water coming through properly.
O-rings are great little inventions. They work to keep leaks from penetrating a seal. The secret to their capability comes from the pressure that holds them in place. In most assemblies, they're actually a little bit smaller than you might think they should be. You have to stretch them for them to fit, or they sometimes fit right in. Once we close the assembly, pressure is applied to the O-ring, which immediately alters its size and shape. When we were doing assemblies before, if we ever had to open an assembly once it had been closed with an o-ring in there, we had to replace the o-rings, they either didn't fit or could not be trusted to work properly. I think that's what happened here. The filter has been working fine for years. Now, we opened it up, took the O-rings out, and the O-rings have (over time and pressure) been stretched to a new size. At best, it would take some fiddling to get them to fit. More than likely, it will require replacing the old O-Rings with new O-rings.
Looking at the model you provided--625.343950--on http://SearsPartsDirect.com there are a few O-rings in the assembly listed. It sounds like the ones you are referring to are numbered 9 on the parts breakdown. These are the ones that fit on the inside of the head, and they are to measure 3 3/8" inside diameter and 3 5/8" outside diameter. I am not seeing these being available at our local parts centers, and their part number is STD302237. You can order them directly from www.SearsPartsDirect.com, and it may be worth investing in the expedited shipping, if it's available in your area. The list for about $2, and whenever dealing with O-Rings, I always suggest getting a few spares, just in case.
I hope this helps. For further assistance, feel free to reply here, send an email to contactus@searshomeservices.com, or give us a call at 1-800-424-2047.

Hi, Jeanne Monroe. I'm Cameron with the Sears Blue Service Crew. My wife and I both love to cook, and one of the things we hate to see is our pots and pans turning black/brown/yellow, or somehow just not staying as pretty and lasting as long as they should. You mention that you're having this problem with the metal pots/pans in your dishwasher turning black. You don't mention whether everything else comes out okay, but I'm guessing that it does. I'm also guessing this black coloration doesn't just wipe off--it's somewhat "stuck" on there, somehow the pots and pans have actually changes from their foray in the dishwasher. This actually makes a lot of sense.
While a lot of the pots and pans out there today are labeled as dishwasher safe, there are many that are not. There are also those that are dishwasher safe only if we follow specific instructions. I actually have the owner's manual for one of our newer Kenmore dishwashers at the link below. On page 15, it goes over some of the precautions that should be followed when washing different types of materials. Stainless steel and silverware, for example, should be rinsed if not washed right away, because prolonged contact with food, vinegars, milk, juices, etc. can eat away at the coating. Couple that with being hit with pressurized water and an abrasive detergent, it can make them look old before their years in no time. Aluminum is mostly dishwasher safe, but the abrasive detergents we typically use can eat away at those. This is particularly true if the detergent has citrus (like Lemon) in it. Other metals--like copper--shouldn't be washed in the dishwasher at all.
From my own experience, and looking around online, I found a few suggestions. First, try washing metal pans by hand. A great product to help out with this job is called Bar Keepers Friend. It seems another popular product to lessen the effect of detergents on pots and pans in the dishwasher is those little tablets such as Electrasol. The exact soap and method you decide on might take a little bit of testing. Everyone has their own unique set of conditions--water temperature, pressure, quality, are just a few examples.
Please, if you need further assistance, let us know. We always appreciate your support and feedback. You can touch base with us here on the blog, sending an email to contactus@searshomeservices.com, or giving us a ring at 1-800-424-2047.

This is Cameron with the Sears Blue Service Crew again. Paul Hujar, I'd like to help you out with the problem you're having with your GE refrigerator, model TFX22JRBBWW. I'm not fully sure I understand what you're looking for in the fridge door to "swing back." When you open the door, the weight of the door and what's on it's shelves will cause some momentum for it to open fully even after letting go, but there are no springs or any mechanism that really forces it open. If you're missing that little "spring" or "jump" some people describe as they close their fridge or freezer, that usually comes from the magnet within the door gasket. If you're not seeing that, it could mean that the door has too much weight on it to allow it to work or the gasket/surface of the cabinet needs cleaned with soap and water, or the magnet within the gasket is failing.
There is a good explanation of how the door hinges on your fridge work at the link below. This is written for a different fridge model, but the same hinges are used on the doors. Hopefully, this helps.

Kenmore model # 721 8915081
My microwave is stuck in multi cook/defrost mode. We stopped defrosting and may not have cleared the time before entering additional time to cook. I’ve tried clearing many times and turning off the power to clear the microwave which corrected the problem once before with a similar problem which happened about 2 years ago. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you.
Posted by Joe on August 17, 2010 at 01:06 PM CDT #
Hi, Joe. My name is Cameron, and I'm with the Sears Blue Service Crew. A microwave getting a mind of its own like that can be a pretty annoying situation. There is not a lot of information floating around on this unit, as it dates back to over twenty years back. That leaves me with some basic concepts. The design of these older microwaves was pretty simple, everything ran off a single power control board. Usually, turning the power off to the microwave for several minutes will clear the memory. In some cases, I've seen where the microwave needs to be left off for an extended period of time, like over night, for the memory to clear. It is possible that even clearing the memory will not fix the problem you're running into. It may be that the control board has finally given out over the years. The part number for the circuit board is 504419R. The R does stand for refurbished, which is actually a good thing. It means this specific control board has gone through all the testing to know that it's going to work rather than the random testing done on new models from the factory. It runs a bit under $100, not including shipping and handling.
Please keep in mind, a microwave is one of the most dangerous things to work on in our home. The microwave can hold a lethal charge for extended periods of time. Qualified technicians have a special tool to safely discharge this energy before getting to work. Also, once any work has been done on a microwave, it must be tested for RF leakage. If you'd like for a technician to complete the task for you, you can schedule one at http://www.searshomeservices.com/repair just follow the steps in the blue box to the right. In most areas, there will be a flat rate for labor of $129, which covers everything except parts and taxes.
The other consideration would be, particularly with a model this old, is an entirely new unit. The new unit is most likely going to be more powerful and will almost positively be more efficient. Take a look over at http://Sears.com and see the new models that are out there. You may find the cost for a new one versus the cost for repairing the older one is a more economically reasonable maneuver.
If we can assist you further, reply here on the blog, send an email to contactus@searshomeservices.com, or even give us a call at 1-800-424-2047.

Your comment makes sense, but why has this never happened before now? This has just occurred within the last six months. I used cascade with bleach a while back and wondered if that could have been the start of my black pans.
I have been washing these same items for a long time and have not had a problem like this.

Hi, Jeanne Monroe. It's Cameron again, with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I'm glad you got back to us. You're not alone when thinking that the pots and pans turning black doesn't make a whole lot of sense at first. I still believe we're looking at the same issue, though. I believe this for two reasons.
First, from your description, it's possible the Cascade was a bit harsher than your normal cleanser, and this sped up/instigated the problem. Next, you've had these pieces of cookware for awhile. Over time, the protective coating that these pots & pans is going to wear away, even from just cooking and hand washing with non-abrasive/non-citrus soaps. So, we're most likely looking at a combination of factors--both the normal wear and tear that will happen over time, and the acceleration from detergent used. As an aside, a close friend of mine had just gotten some new pots and pans--one of the better brands--and after two or three washes, she started having the same problem. She was using the same dishwasher and detergent she had been using for years on the same cookware company's previous products. She called the company and discussed the issue with them, and they ended up coming to the agreement that the same "line/level" of pots and pans today are not made the same as those from years ago. For her, they recommended upgrading to a higher quality set. They even sent her a small set to get started and see the difference. So far, this new set hasn't had any problems, but there is definitely a difference in the cost. I'm not saying you need new pots/pans now, but you may in the future, and it's something to keep in mind. Also, if you do some searching online, you might find some helpful advice in reconditioning cookware that'll help you reduce the discoloration and lengthen the life of the metal pots and pans. This will be a temporary fix, as the discoloration is an alteration in the chemical makeup weakening of the metal.
As always, you can reply to us here, send an email to contactus@searshomeservices.com, or give us a call at 1-800-424-2047.

I have a over the range Kenmore microwave oven with exhaust. It is approx 10 yrs old. It was working fine till yesterday. Now it does not power on at all. Checked circuit breaker, no problem there. Is it worth repairing this microwave or should we buy new one?

My Kenmore Elite model 1108 5866 401 dryer makes a very loud screeching noise when tumbling (either when turned on or pushed manually). No noise when pushed in the counterclockwise direction. I see nothing stuck between drum and wall. Most likely cause? Thanks.
Posted by Alice on August 23, 2010 at 11:26 AM CDT #
Oh I'm wrong, the dryer makes noise when manually pushed in either direction. Sorry for the confusion.
Posted by alice on August 23, 2010 at 11:54 AM CDT #
Hello, Alice. My name is Cameron, and I'm with the Sears Blue Service Crew. A screeching sound from your dryer is certainly a reason for concern. There are actually several things that could be causing this. You could be looking at a failing idler pulley or bearing. This could also be caused if the felt seals have worn or fallen off, and you have metal scraping against metal. I have a link from an expert answer over at our sister site, www.ManageMyLife.com that might help you solve the mystery of your dryer's strange noises here.

Hello, I have a Kenmore Coldspot Refrig model 106.59289990, 1999, and perhaps you could help with a problem that recently developed. The icemaker dispenser on the door started to build up frost. Checked manual all levels set correctly. Any suggestions what the cause may be? Thanks, Carmen
Posted by 10.236.95.25 on August 23, 2010 at 01:58 PM CDT #
Hi Carmen, this Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know how frustrating it is when an appliance is not functioning properly. I'm happy to help you today. In most cases frosting in the chute occurs because of using mainly crushed ice. The small ice particles will not all drop out of the chute and will eventually build up. All that is necessary in this case is to flush the chute periodically with cubes to clear it out. If you are using primarily crushed ice this will be normal.
If you mix the usage between cubes and crushed and frosting is still occurring it will indicate the dispenser door is not sealing good. You can check this by placing a flashlight in the chute and then look for light around the dispenser door with it closed. If you see some light the door is not sealing which could be due to the following:
1. The dispenser door may need to be adjusted or replaced.
2. The chute may have a burr keeping the door from making a good seal.
3. The closer mechanism in defective.
I really hope this information helps you. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know. You can always post here on the blog, email contactus@searshomeservices.com, or give us a call at 1-800-424-2047.

Posted by Sidney on August 26, 2010 at 12:30 PM CDT #
Hello Sidney, this is Jon from the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know it’s important to get the right information and I’m happy to help. Your Kenmore dryer should have an electronic board inside the console which keeps voltage applied to the motor relay and to monitor the temperature. If the control board does not receive the correct signal from the thermistor it will shut down the dryer. If the motor relay is bad it will also shut off when start is released. Your dryer may have a bad thermistor, control board or motor relay. For more information or if you would like to set service please contact us here at Sears Home Services at 1-800-424-2047.

I have a Kenmore Water Softener Model # UltraSoft 250 625.3388260. It has been exposed to the elements in the Corpus Christi TX area for about 8 years now. Recently the button covers on the face plate have cracked. But more importantly, I find it apparently stuck in a mode where I lose my soft water and can hear it making a noise. I believe when it is making the noise it is also allowing water to flow out of the drain hose. It sounds like water is flowing as well. The first few time I discovered this, I put in to an immediate recycle mode which stopped the noise and as expected, the soft water returned a few days later. But that no longer works. I have to manually put it in by-pass mode to stop the noise. Any ideas on what may be wrong and what parts are needed to repair it? I’d appreciate any help/assistance you can give. Thanks.

This is Cameron with the Sears Blue Service Crew once again. Valued customer, a failing water softener can be a really big deal, especially in certain parts of Texas. Off the cuff, I'd be suspecting the problem here is problem you describe is completely within the head unit--the control board or somewhere near the venturi assembly. I can't be sure, because I'm not positive which sounds it's making. Typically, technician would do a full tear down and inspection and go from there. I would recommend calling a tec to have them service that softener. You can schedule andappointment by calling us directly at 1-800-424-2047. On oven model # 790.61752104, there is a vent under the back left burner, into the oven. Is there supposed to be any type of piece/part partially covering the hole, or is it supposed to be completely open? My son is renting an apartment, and this is the stove in all the apartments. I am not familiar with the vent being completely open. Looks like it would be too easy for spills from that burner to drip into the oven, and that it would allow too much heat from the oven to waft up into the kitchen. I am afraid he's renting a place with a defective stove, but the maintenance folks said this is how it's designed. Is a part missing? Or is it supposed to be completely open?
Posted by 10.236.95.27 on September 15, 2010 at 04:17 PM CDT #
Hello there, Valued Customer. I'm with the Sears Blue Service Crew, and my name is Cameron. I understand wanting to be sure the appliances we have in a rental are setup/working properly, and it's great that you're helping look after your son's best interests. The oven you mentioned does have the standard vent below the left burner, which is a vent and does not have anything blocking it. Spills can get down there, but the temperature in the oven itself is negligible. The main thing is to be careful not to boil over on that burner and be cautious with spills. If we can assist you further, you can let us know by posting on the blog here, sending an email to contactus@searshomeservices.com, or calling on 1-800-424-2047.

I have a Kenmore electric 790 series range. THe heating element on the range is not heating up. It clicks like it is starting the heat up process but then nothing happens. Help please.
Posted by Chris on September 19, 2010 at 11:09 AM CDT #
Hello, Chris. My name's Cameron ad I'm with the Sears Blue Service Crew. A non-functional range can be a big issue. With the information you've provided, it's going to be very hard to tell you much about what might be happening here. The 790 tells us who the core manufacturer is, nothing else. The 790 should be followed by a number of other numbers, which would give us the actual model number, so we can see (about) how old the range is and how it's made. I don't usually hear a click from an element, so that's a bit odd there. You also didn't mention which element is not heating. In any event, when an element isn't heating, the usual cause will be the heating element itself. There could also be an interruption in the power supply or a fluctuation in the supply of power to the element. This could be whatever controls that element, be it an infinite switch or an electronic oven control. I would really recommend a qualified technician be called in to correct this issue. Go to this link http://searshomeservices.com/repair/ and follow the steps in the blue box to the right to set up an appointment with one of our certified professionals.

If you don't have one near you, most Sears stores can act as a drop off and pick up location for your coffee maker. The problem is most likely a failed heating element under the plate. This is Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. Ali B. I would like to assist you today. The LP conversion should have been completed by a qualified installed. If you paid a service provided to complete the conversion, I recommend that you have the service provider check the orifices on the burners and make sure that all of the instructions for the conversion were followed properly. If the burner orifices for the cook top were not installed properly, you could have this problem.
If you converted the range to LP yourself, then I recommend that you review the LP conversion kit instructions. Make sure that the proper orifices were correctly installed on the cook top burners. Most conversions require that you flip the cap on the pressure regulator to run the range on LP gas. If you missed this step, it could cause the problem that you are having. Check this step to make sure that it was completed.
If you are still having this issue after checking over the conversion, I recommend having a service technician examine the range. Service can be scheduled by calling us at 1-800-424-2047 where any of our associates will gladly get you taken care of. You can also create your service on our www.SearsHomeServices.com website.

Valued Customer! My name is Cameron and I'm a part of the Sears Blue Service Crew. A refrigerator that keeps on icing up can be attributed to a number of things. You could be looking at a problem with the defrost bi-metal or timer. Perhaps it is a fan constantly running. The temperature control may not be set properly. The could be a sealing properly, allowing too much humidity into the freezer. There are a lot of variables here. With something like this, I would definitely recommend scheduling service with an qualified technician. I have an Mitsubishi TV Model WT-42311 that does not turn on. The error code received was 2-2. Do you have any suggestions on what I can try next or give me an estimate on what it may cost to fix it?
Posted by George on November 06, 2010 at 05:59 PM CDT #
This is Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. George I would like to assist you with your Mitsubishi prompting you with the 2-2 error code. I know this can be frustrating and I'm here to help. 2-2 is a short protection and there's a 95% chance it means one of the two pico fuses that protect the convergence IC chips are bad. If leaving the television unplugged overnight doesn't help, more than likely the TV will need to be serviced. Your model uses two of the chips and the light box will need to be pulled out to replace them safely. For this type of repair, I strongly recommend having a technician complete the repair. If the chips are indeed the issue, they can run about $30 (together). For more information or if you would like to set service, please contact us here at Sears Home Service at 1-800-424-2047.

I pulled the refrigerator out from the wall and no leaks outside the unit. Shut off the water feed to the unit and dripping stopped. Can you advise? Possibly a leak from the ice maker inside? Thanks.
Posted by Tom on November 10, 2010 at 11:59 AM CST #
Hi, Tom. This is Cameron with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know what a problem it can be to have that leak coming in through your freezer, and it sounds like you're off to a good start in troubleshooting. I'd be happy to help you out here. It does sound odd that you've got water dripping at the lower back panel. If it were coming from the top of the back panel downward, I would think the connection to the ice maker is the culprit. I can't see anything in the schematics that should be causing a leak where you describe it unless the line itself has a leak. Replacing those lines can be a bit of a bear, and would be something we'd recommend a technician for, which you can schedule right from our website--just go to www.SearsHomeServices.com and follow the steps in the blue box to the right. I am replacing a 20 year old Kenmore electric dryer. I am thinking about purchasing a Fisher Paykel, (black panel) electric dryer. I had not heard of the company until now, and Sears, here in town, is wanting to sell me one. How is the track record of the dryer? Do you have to service many of them? I am used to Kenmore and am a little hesitant to purchase the FP dryer. Is this a good purchase that would be dependable. I would buy the 3 year warranty with it.

The freezer coils have been freezing up. The defrost cycle has
not been working. I put a new Adaptive Defrost Controler PCB in. It
woked for about a month, now it has started to happen again. I Removed
the ice again with the hair dryer. Then the frig. would not turn on. I
just let it sit for the last two days. This morning the fridg. was back
on and it cooled down to about 38Deg. While it was cold tonight I
checked the continuity. There was Continuity on the thermostat and there
was con. on the heated. Then I turn the fridg. back on (nothing)
it did not restart. I check the cont. again (both items).
There was no contintuity on Thermo. or heater. Could the heater coil be
bad? Or something else?

Hi Frank, I'm Korinna a Sears Blue Service Crew member. I'm happy to help you with your refrigerator. The best way to help determine what part is needed is to put this unit into a defrost cycle. It can be manually advanced by doing the following in order.
Unplug the refrigerator
Turn the thermostat off
Reconnect the power (leave the thermostat off)
Within 3-8 seconds it will activate the heater. After a few minutes you should be able to hear some hissing and popping from inside the freezer. This is the ice melting on the heater. If you hear this, it means the ADC board (timer) is not advancing and will need to be replaced. If nothing happens the heater or bi-metal may have failed. When you advance it into the defrost cycle, listen for some clicks. If it clicks twice, the bi-metal may be open. To determine for sure between the bi-metal and element, some checks will need to be made. The bi-metal is usually the least common part that needs replacing. I hope this helps you today Frank. If we can assist you further, please let us know. You can reply on the blog, send an email to contactus@searshomeservices.com, or call us up at 1-800-424-2047.

This is Cameron with the Sears Blue Service Crew once again. I'd be happy to you with your question in regards to the retainer spring on your washer, and how to replace it. It is a bit of a job to get it on there properly, and this is something we'd typically recommend a qualified technician do, only to prevent further problems down the line. On a basic level, I can tell you that the spring should go around the inside of the bevel gasket. If it's come out, there is a good chance it's become stretched or broken, and will need replaced. Without a model number, I can't verify if there's something unique to your model, but I did fnd this expert answer from our friends over at ManageMyLife.com which includes some instructions and images on how to replace that spring.

Hello, Jason. My name is Cameron, and I'm part of the Sears Blue Service Crew. I seem to be hearing similar questions a lot this year. Many people are finding great deals on these older snow thrower attachments just in time for the season. The honest answer is: the attachment *might* fit. The manufacturer of the 842 attachments went out of business some time ago. Unfortunately, we don't have a list of the tractors this attachment will fit. I have also provided a link to the answer from one of our experts on the same model below:

I have a kenmore elite he5t steam clothes washer that keeps flashing trouble code f27 and f35 so far I have replaced the pressure sensor, I replaced the drain pump, I went through and checked all the electrical connections looking for loose wires etc..I made sure the drain hose wasn't crimped and vaccummed it out with a shop vac and that the inlet hoses weren't blocked and that the air trap wasn't blocked as well. I also checked the inlet valve for proper shutoff and I checked the wire harness connections to the drain pump, pressure switch, water inlet valve and central control unit and still as soon as I try to run a normal wash it flashed sud then f27 and sometimes f 35. I'm at the end of my rope. Please guide me in the right path. Where do I go from here. My model # is 11047789701

I have a Kenmore fridge 106.77861791 '92 model. Freezer keeps icing up on the coils behind the wall then eventually on the back wall too. Defrost timer advances on it's own or if I advance it to defrost cycle, the heater is working (and Boy does it get hot!). Why does it keep icing up? I flushed the drain hole so that's fine. Help! I'm a widow (who can handle a hammer on her own) and can't afford a new fridge right now! I was going to install a new defrost timer but not positive that's needed.
Thanks!
Posted by Rosie on December 06, 2010 at 07:00 PM CST #
Hi, Rosie. My name is Cameron, and I am part of the Sears Blue Service Crew. Based on your description, and considering the age of your refrigerator, the most likely explanation for the coils icing up, then causing problems with the refrigerator unit, would be that the refrigerant in the compressor needs recharged. This should only be done by someone with the proper training and licensing. You might also want to check and make sure that the evaporator fan isn't constantly running, which can also cause the coils to ice. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know by replying on the blog here, sending us an email at contactus@searshomeservices.com, or calling us up at 1-800-424-2047.

I have a craftsman snow blower model 536.886260. After bowing snow for about 10 minutes the engine cuts off. What could be the causes?
Posted by ted thompson on December 14, 2010 at 04:19 PM CST #
Ted Thompson, hello. My name is Cameron. I'm with the Sears Blue Service Crew, and it's my pleasure to assist you today. A gas engine on something like a snow blower can cut out after short periods of use for a number of reasons. Some things to look for to help diagnose this issue include: if you simply leave the snow blower running idle for 10 minutes or so, does it cut off? Are you able to start it right back up, or do you need to give it some time before it will start again? Is the snow blower difficult to start for its initial usage for the day? Does anything signal that the snow blower is about to die? Does the engine rev, for example? Or does the engine just slowly come to a stop? If you need to give the snow blower time before starting it back up, it is not initially difficult to start, and it dies without any warning signs, it could be vapor lock. In this case, the blower should also stall out after running idle for 10-15 minutes. Try this next time it stalls. Loosen or remove the gas cap, then try to start it right away, without letting it sit. If it starts up, you'll need a new gas cap, which you can get by going to http://www.SearsPartsDirect.com and doing a search for the engine model, which should be 143.019003. If the engine shows other signs such as starting right back up without waiting or removing the gas cap, it could be an issue with the carb or contaminants in the fuel. If you do need service for your snow blower, since it is at least 9hp, this should be an in home repair, which you can scheduled by going to http://www.SearsHomeServices.com/repair and following the steps in the blue box to the right.

I have Kenmore Magic Blue Vaccum Cleaner. The lid of which does not lock as something is preventing its locking.
The motor and suction unit of the machine are working fine.
I checked up with Sears Store in Arbor Place Mall Douglasville, GA 30135: The demonstration piece at the Store has the same problem. The Manager has only one answer: Send it to us for repairs.
I belive there is some minor trick/solution for this problem and does not require any repairs. May be some obstruction which need to be removed.
Please advise action.
Posted by Atul Rupani on December 15, 2010 at 12:48 PM CST #
Hello, Atul Rupani. My name is Cameron, and I'm part of the Sears Blue Service Crew. I've had a few vacuums in my time where the lid has refused to latch properly, so I know what you're going through. Without the model number of the vacuum, I can't access the specific drawings for it to see how everything goes together. Even in that case, the drawings are a bit limited. Typically, the doors on a vacuum are simple pieces of plastic with hinges on one side and a tab to fit a lock on the other. If the door isn't even shutting properly, it can be an obstruction, which we'd find simply by running something along the edges that face when the unit is closed. I've also seen where the door becomes slightly misaligned and needs popped back into place. If the door is closing fully, and just not locking, there's a good chance that the pieces that form the locking point could be broken, which is usually determined by a simple visual inspection. If we can at least get the door lined up properly and closing, and it won't lock, you can look at the parts at http://www.SearsPartsDirect.com with the complete model number, and see if there is a specific locking mechanism you can purchase and feel comfortable installing on your own. Another option, as mentioned by the store manager, would be to take the vacuum in and have one of the technicians take a look at it. There's usually a small diagnostics fee charged, and then you would be informed of what they found and the total cost to repair before moving forward.
I hope this helps, Atul. If we can help you more, you can post a reply here, email contactus@searshomeservices.com, or call 1-800-424-2047.

I have a Kenmore front loading washer. 110.4646 the water is coming in fine, not plugged, the draining of the water works fine, cleaned trap. the washer blinks green for "add a garment", "spin" and "clothes clean". Do you know what the problem is or do you need more info.
Posted by Ron on December 16, 2010 at 12:06 PM CST #
Hello, Ron. This is Cameron with the Sears Blue Service Crew, and I'd be happy to give you a hand today. I know it's upsetting when a washer isn't working properly, and it's giving errors that we're not quite sure what they mean. With the Kenmore washer you have, when the add garment, spin, and clothes clean lights blink, it typically indicates an F25, which is a problem with the motor sensor. I have included a link here to one of our expert answers for a different error with this model, but it included the diagnostic procedure and the code key, which should assist you in moving forward. Most likely, this would be an issue with the motor sensor, which is something we would recommend having a qualified technician confirm and replace. You can schedule service by following the steps in the blue box to the right at http://www.SearsHomeServices.com/repair .

Posted by Timothy D Mitchell on December 19, 2010 at 02:00 AM CST #
Hello, Timothy D. Mitchell. My name is Cameron, and I'm part of the Sears Blue Service Crew. I'd be happy to help you with your dishwasher not draining. The model number you provided does not match anything I can find in our systems, so I can only provide some basic information. A dishwasher not draining can be a problem with the drain line itself, which should be leading to the garbage disposal. If a new installation, it's possible the issue is a knock out plug still in place in the garbage disposal. You could also be looking at trouble with a clogged filter, which can be cleaned or a stuck float. I've provided some of our expert answers on dishwashers not draining in the following link:

I have a relatively new Whirlpool Quiet II. Something that just started in the last two months is that the detergent reservoir door does not open during the washing cycle ans so the dishes do not get that clean. I have tried turning the rack around and cleaning out the reservoir several times but nothing seems to help.
Posted by Art Handy on December 20, 2010 at 12:08 PM CST #
Hi Art Handy, I'm Jon a Sears Blue Service Crew member. I know it’s frustrating when a new appliance isn’t working correctly. I’m here to help. There could be several reasons why the soap dispenser is not opening and not dispensing rinse aide. The dispenser door and rinse aide is controlled by the electronic control board and a solenoid attached the dispenser assembly. Voltage is applied to the solenoid during the wash cycle to cause the soap dispenser door to open and then again during the rinse cycle to trigger the rinse agent. The failure could be the Control board, Solenoid/Dispenser assembly, or a loose wiring connection. I’d recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your dishwasher if it’s under warranty. Sandy Forrest, this is Jon with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know it's never good to see that water pump back out in your dishwasher. I'm happy to help.Without knowing the full model number of your dishwasher I will only be able to provide general information. Generally speaking the likely cause of the incomplete pump out is a partial restriction in the drain system or the drain hose is not looped up and is allowing water to flow back into the tub once the drain cycle has timed out. It could also have check valve stuck open too depending on the model dishwasher. For more information or if you would like service please feel free to contact us here at Sears Home Services at 1-800-424-2047.

I have a Kenmore heat/cool window unit, model 580.75124, that's stopped heating. as it's fairly cold outside, I can't tell if it's not cooling, too. is there anything I can do to debug the problem?
Posted by Ned Danieley on December 28, 2010 at 09:47 AM CST #
Ned Danieley, this is Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I can definitely understand your concern with your window unit not heating. I'm happy to help. The window air conditioner and heater heats with an electric heating element. There is a safety thermostat in the circuit that turns the element off if the fan stops blowing. This thermostat might have failed, the electric element might have failed, or a wire might have burned or broken in the circuit. Another possibility could be that the fan may have froze, due to the cold weather. I'm providing you with some images showing how to access the element and safety thermostat. Be sure you disconnect the power to the element before removing any parts. Please click on the links below.

Posted by jimmy w on December 30, 2010 at 03:20 PM CST #
Hello Jimmy W., this is Korinna from the Sears Blue Service Crew. A range is a major household appliance and definitely an inconvenience to be without. I'm happy to help you today. If resetting the range by unplugging it or switching off the designated circuit breaker to your home for 20-30 minutes doesn't help, the thermal switch likely failed which will prevent the bake and broil elements from working in the lower oven. Garage door opener does not work by any remote controls. It works fine by the wall switch in the house, but will not work with any remote. I followed the instructions, but it will not learn the code. Could this just be the receiver?
Posted by James on January 03, 2011 at 08:30 AM CST #
Hi James, I'm Jon a Sears Blue Service Crew member. I’m happy to help. If they do not respond to the remotes only to close then your safety sensors are either out of alignment or need replaced. If it does not respond to opening then your vacation lock on the inside wall station is engaged. Press and hold the lock button for 2 seconds and try it. If it just does not respond at all then you will need a new logic board. If you need replacement parts go to www.SearsPartsDirect.com. Without a complete model number I am only able to provide you with general information. If this is a Whirlpool Kenmore I would recommend checking the agitate dogs. Hi Seth Middlemas, I'm Jon a Sears Blue Service Crew member. I know it's never fun dealing with an appliance that's not working. I'm happy to help provide information. You will need to test the voltage coming out of the ERC electric range control. BK to L2 out for bake and BRL to L2 out for broil. Both should show 240volts when turned on. If you do not have 240volts going out to the elements and you do have 240volts into the ERC then we know that the ERC needs replaced. Two weeks ago I bought aKenmore dishwasher. Model #2213469K902, serial #F10916330.
I turned it on to do a wash cycle this morning and 2 1/2 hours later it is still running.
Is this normal? What should I do?
Posted by Diane Davis on March 30, 2011 at 10:10 AM CDT #
Hi Diane Davis, I'm Korinna a Sears Blue Service Crew member. I can definitely understand your concern with your new dishwasher running for 2 1/2 hours. I'm happy to help you today. The system is not recognizing the model number you provided. However, today's dishwashers with energy efficient features run much longer, and they use a lot less energy and water than older dishwashers. A cycle lasting between 2-4 hours is normal with today's dishwashers.
If the dishwasher's running time exceeds 4 hours and the cycle lights are flashing an error code, there may be an issue that requires service. I hope this information helps you today. For more information or to set service please feel free to contact us here at Sears Home Services at 1-800-424-2047.

My Kenmore Microwave fan cycled on & off for no reason for an hour. (The stove/oven below were NOT on, NOT warm.) Although it did not repeat the mysterious going on-and-off for the next hour, I unplugged it fearing a short in the wiring. Cause? Solution?
Posted by P. Richkus on May 13, 2011 at 07:09 AM CDT #
P. Richkus, this is Jon with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I understand how concerning it is to have your microwave turning on and off. This microwave has a heat sentry feature. If the temperature around the microwave gets too hot, the fan will continue to run and cannot be turned off. It may stay on up to an hour after you finish cooking and the area cools down. If this explains what you are seeing, then the fan is operating normally. If the fan continues to run for hours after no cooking functions are being used on the microwave or any nearby oven or cook top and the area is obviously at room temperature, then you could have a failed control or a problem with the thermistor (temperature detector) that controls this fan function. This type of failure would need to be diagnosed and repaired by a service technician. Microwaves are inherently unsafe to repair yourself. Internal capacitors can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. A microwave radiation leakage test must be performed on the unit following any internal repair. If you would like to set service or need more information please feel free to contact us here at Sears Home Services at 1-800-424-2047.

Valued Customer, this is Jon with the Sears Blue Service Crew. Without a model number I will not be able to give you a specific answer. Usually when a front load washer is not going into the high speed spin cycle is because the load is too heavy or out of balance. Most washers have an out of balance sensor that will reduce the spin speed to prevent damage to the washers other components. Other possibilities would be; bad bearings, door lock, motor or control board. Usually service is recommended for this situation. Service can be set by either calling us at 1-800-424-2047 or clicking on the red Start now button on the home page.

I have a 2010 YT3000. My question concerns the buildup of grass on the right mandrel.
I have noticed over the last several cuts that there is a lot a grass buildup on the top side of one mandrel (right side of the deck). I have to remove the clippings several times during a cut. The left mandrel is fine. It has no buildup.
I replaced the blades this year with 'gator blades'. Could this be causing the problem? I do not have a grass catcher.
Any suggestions on what might be causing this problem?
Thank You

Hi Angela, I'm Korinna a Sears Blue Service Crew member. I know it can be frustrating to wait for a repairman with a washer full of water. I'm happy to help you today. If your washer is covered under a protection agreement, I do not recommend attempting to repair the unit yourself, as it could void the agreement. From the description you give, the failure is likely a broken lid switch or a broken lid switch actuator. When the lid is shut the lid strike located on the bottom edge of the lid must pass through the small opening in the top and activate the lid switch or the washer will not operate in any drain and spin cycle. If you listen carefully while raising and lowering the lid you should be able to hear a faint click of the lid switch when you open and shut the lid. If you do not hear a faint click, the lid switch will need to be replaced.
There are a few ways to manually drain a top loading washer. I found a website that provides three ways to drain the washer and I linked the web page below.

I really hope this information helps you manually drain the washer Angela. If you have any other questions or concerns, give us a call here at Sears Home Services at 1-800-424-2047.

Scott Larsen, this is Kay with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I understand your concern with the build up of grass on the right mandrel. I'm happy to help you today. The high lift on the Gator mulching blade draws the grass upward, which would make the blade type a great choice if you were wanting to use a bagger attachment. I would recommend using the normal mulching blades for your model of lawn tractor so that the grass is pushed down. The gator blade may definitely be the cause of the build up on your right mandrel. I also recommend cutting the grass when it is dry. This would be another way of preventing build up. If you have any further questions about the problem you're experiencing, you may want to schedule an appointment to have a repair technician come take a look at your lawn tractor. The lawn tractor may still be covered under the Manufacture's Warranty. If you would like to set service or need more information please feel free to contact us here at Sears Home Services at 1-800-424-2047.

maytag dishwasher mdb4800awb will not start, the options on the panel are lit and respond, so I am assuming the unit is getting power, the door hinges let go a while ago but it has been working fine until today. What can I troubleshoot?
Posted by loren on May 28, 2011 at 08:41 AM CDT #
Hello Loren, this is Korinna from the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know it can be frustrating when a dishwasher will not start the wash. I'm happy to help you today. What you described sounds like an issue with either the touchpad, control board or a loose connection. You can try resetting the unit by disconnecting it from the outlet or switch off the designated main circuit breaker of your house hold for 20-30 minutes, then restore the power. If the reset doesn't work on something like this, you will need to access the control board area & inspect the wiring harness & take some circuit readings with a volt/ohm meter. If the keypad is not securely connected at the plug-in connector on the control board you will have these symptoms. There should be a technical data sheet located behind the toe panel with some troubleshooting information and test, if you are comfortable with diagnosing the issue. If you are not comfortable with this process, I strongly recommend having a technician diagnose and repair your dishwasher. Service can be set by either calling us at 1-800-424-2047 or clicking on the red Start now button on our home page.

I have a stove model 66595776890 and when I use the dual burner no matter what setting I put it on the entire burner heats up on high. What causes this and is there a specific part that needs to be replaced? I also need a bottom door trim piece because mine is rusting after only a few years. Can I just order the bottom piece?

Hi Barry, I'm Korinna a Sears Blue Service Crew member. I know it can be an inconvenience when a major house hold appliance, such as a range isn't working properly. I'm happy to help you today. From the description you give, the burner/infinite switch is the likely failed component, causing the dual burner to only heat on high. The burner/infinite switch is what controls the level of the burner. I provided you with a direct link to our sister site Sears PartsDirect to purchase the parts, if you are comfortable in repairing the unit yourself. The infinite/burner switch is number 23 on the Control Panel diagram and shows a price of $82.10.
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kenmore-Parts/Range-Parts/Model-66595776890/0582/0124111?pathTaken=&prst=0&shdMod=66595776890
According to the Door diagram, the door trim is no longer available. No alternate or substitute part has been recommended by the manufacturer. I understand that rust spots can be unsightly. You can try painting over the rust to cover it up. Since ovens and the area around them get warm and regular paint most likely will not stick for a long period of time, I recommend using paints designed to withstand high heats such as Rust-Oleum. You will want to sand the rusted area down a bit to help the paint adhere, cleaning the surface well afterwards.

Hello Valued Customer, this is Korinna from the Sears Blue Service Crew. I understand your concern with your Kenmore Elite dishwasher flashing a green light and not responding to the control panel. I'm happy to help you today. Different flashing lights will indicate specific issues. You did not specify which light was lit up. I assume that the green CLEAN light is flashing in a pattern. The number of blinks will determine an error code that is being indicated on the console. Depending on the model, the flashing Clean light can also indicates a heater circuit failure. You can try resetting this fault code by pressing the following buttons in this order (this key dance should be completed within about 5 seconds): HEATED DRY - NORMAL WASH - HEATED DRY - NORMAL WASH. If the above key dance doesn't help, you can also try a Hard Reset on the dishwasher by unplugging the appliance or switching off the circuit breaker of the home for 20-30 minutes, then restoring the power.
If this information doesn't help, I strongly recommend scheduling service. An appointment can be scheduled at our website www.SearsHomeServices.com, in the blue "Scheduling is easy" section of the repair page. Once all the requested information is provided, the system will prompt you with the service fee and the available appointment dates and times for your area.
I really hope this information helps you today. If you have any other questions or concerns, contact us directly at Sears Home Services at 1-800-424-2047.

Hello, I have a Kenmore 700 washer that stopped filling up, I upplugged it to check to make sure it was getting electricity and when i plugged it back up it fininshed filling up. but thats it. I can hear the motor but nothing is happening. was wondering what it could be.
Thanks

Posted by Angela on June 06, 2011 at 10:18 AM CDT #
Angela, this is Jon with the Sears Blue Service Crew. On something like this you are looking at possibly having a bad timer, pressure switch, pressure switch hose or clogged air dome. The pressure switch has a diaphragm that senses water pressure and either opens or closes the contacts. If the pressure switch contacts do not reset after pump out, the washer will not fill with water. The pressure hose is connected to the pressure switch at the top and the air dome at the bottom. If the pressure hose is pinched closed or the air dome clogged the washer will not fill with water. The only other possibility would be a defective water inlet valve or timer. A service tech may be needed to diagnose the issue for repair. If you would like to set service, or have any further questions please feel free to contact us here at Sears Home Services directly at 1-800-424-2047.

am interested in buying a kenmore 70 pint dehumidifier model # 54701 but not sure why it says 70 pint unit and then on the bucket it has 22 pints.hope you can help me out
Posted by donna smith on June 16, 2011 at 05:53 PM CDT #
Hi Donna, I'm Tino a Sears Blue Service Crew member and I understand how puzzling this can be. The reason the your dehumidifier reads 70 pint when the bucket is 22 pints is because the dehumidifier will fraw out 70 of water from the location. However, the bucket can only hold 22 pints of water. So when the bucket is full, it would be best to empty it out the the dehumidifier can release the remaining water. I have provided you with a link below that will give a further explanation of this.

I have scheduled a service call for my Kenmore Refridg. However, I am curious: is it possible that an ice-cube maker water filter being plugged/need repl. be the cause of the refridge compartment not cooling as it's intended to? The Refridge compartment warming AND the "Replace Filter" light happened almost simultaneously. I have the refridge setting at the maximum and the compartment is just barely cool.
OR..... are these two separate issues?
Posted by David Bonkowski on June 24, 2011 at 11:24 AM CDT #
Hello David Bonkowski, this is Jon from the Sears Blue Service Crew. Having as much information as possible for your refrigerator repair is important, I'm happy to help. These problems would be separete issues. The water filter would only affect the ice maker and water dispenser from working correctly. If the refrigerator section isn't cooling correctly there may be frost in the vents, freezer's to full preventing proper air flow, or the condenser fan is properly blowing air into the refrigerator. David, if you have any further questions please feel free to contact us here at Sears Home Services directly at 1-800-424-2047.

I have a Kenmore dryer(model#78832) and it doesn't seem to be drying correctly. I just replaced the vent piping, and there isn't much of a run through the wall. Any thoughts?
Posted by 10.236.95.27 on June 29, 2011 at 01:06 PM CDT #
Valued Customer, this is Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I understand your concern with your Kenmore dryer not heating correctly. I'm happy to help you today. There are several possibilities causing the dryer to not heat. Since the dryer venting has been replaced, I am assuming it is completely clear and this would not be the cause for the fault. With that being said, the next component to check would be the heating element. Other possibilities: thermistor, heater relay, thermal cut off, hi-limit thermostat, control board, motor switch or wiring problems.
In order to determine the problem with the dryer, a live voltage check will need to be made. If you are comfortable handling live voltage checks, I recommend submitting a question to the experts at our sister site www.managemylife.com, requesting the testing information and wiring diagram for your model. When submitting a question, please be sure to be as detailed as possible and include the complete model number for a model specific response. Within a few business days, they will respond with step-by-step instructions diagrams and/or pictures to help you repair the dryer yourself. The expert help is completely free an it could definitely save you from a service call. Registration is required. However, since all of the Sears sites are tied in with the same log in, you can use the log in information from this site to log into the managemylife website.

I have a self cleaning smooth top Kenmore electric range. My oven has the hidden coils as well.
Last week I was going to bake something that started out runny. To avoid the mess in the bottom of my oven I layed foil down to save me from a messy cleanup. After the food was baked I went to pull out the foil and discard it and I found that the foil I guessed had baked onto the bottom surface of my oven. I worked and got out all the foil but the area of a small dinner plate. Can I use my self cleaning on my oven to see if the rest of the foil will come up?
Posted by Judy M on July 05, 2011 at 02:08 PM CDT #
Hi Judy, I'm Jon a Sears Blue Service Crew member. I'm happy to help with your question. The foil at the bottom of the oven would not come off even after a self clean. The only solution would be to purchase that bottom piece that covers the element. The part can be viewed and purchased on our sister site www.SearsPartsDirect.com with the model number. These newer ranges conduct heat differently from older models so foil in the oven would melt and stick to any part of the oven. For further questions please feel free to contact us here at Sears Home Services directly at 1-800-424-2047.

Looking to purchase a 18.2 Cu. Ft. refrigerator to use in my barn which is NOT heated. Temp. drops to 15 - 20 deg. F during winter. Am now told that I can't put todays refrigerator in unheated places where temp. drops below 32 deg. F. How do I get around this? Can I purchase a refrigerator in Canada that doesn't have this stipulation. Very annoying.
Posted by 10.236.95.27 on July 12, 2011 at 10:37 AM CDT #
Hello Valued Customer, this is Jon from the Sears Blue Service Crew. I'm happy to help with your refrigerator question. Refrigerators are made to be used in temps of 70 to 85 degrees. The reason it's recommended you not put the unit in cold temp areas is that refrigerators have a mineral oil bath for the compressor. In fact this oil is permeated throughout the system in the refrigerant as well. If the fridge is in an environment where the ambient temperature drops below 58 degrees this oil can develop viscosity issues, causing it to congeal and permanently block the sealed system. It can also damage the reed valves in the compressor under these conditions.
The one option available would be to install a garage heater kit if it's available with for the unit. The garage heater kit will keep the compressor and the sealed system hot so it may run in colder temps. This heater will only work at the lowest temp of 34 degrees. There may be some higher end models that can work extreme temps. You may want to search stores like the Great Indoors for those refrigerators. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact us here at Sears Home Services at 1-800-424-2047.

hello tech , i have recently asked why my fridge freezer has been rising in temp over the last few days. i have done everything i can think of, and the tech that responded suggested to unplug for 24 hours to let thaw and plug back in. i did that and now a day or 2 later the temp is on the rise again, could it be that i only left the fridge unpluged for 12 hours even tho the temp in both fridge and freezer were at house temp of 70? the fridge is only 6 years old? Hi Mike. My Name is Korinna and I'm with the Blue Service Crew. I understand your concern with your refrigerator and freezer not keeping temperature. I'm happy to help you today. If you have already gone over the troubleshooting in your owner's manual, it is possible there is an issue with the sensor, control board (depending on model) or an issue with the sealed system. If the refrigerator wasn't unplugged for the recommended amount of time, you will not be able to see the true results. If after the refrigerator is left unplugged for the 24 hours and the issue persists, one of the above components could be at fault. For this type of issue, I would strongly recommend having a technician come out to properly diagnose and repair your refrigerator. I really hope this information helps you today Mike. I own a Kenmore elite oasis gas dryer. It is not drying the clothes in a normal amount of time, 4 times the time of my old dryer. Any suggestions?
Posted by robert leman on August 01, 2011 at 01:02 PM CDT #
Hello Robert Leman, this is Jon from the Sears Blue Service Crew. On something like this if the heat is coming on and the dryer will not dry properly it generally points to a venting issue. If the exhaust vent it restricted or too long the dryer will not cycle properly resulting in poor drying performance and multiple times to dry. Also, doing the basic lint filter check may help as well. Keep in mind that if the vent is clogged this is also an extreme fire danger with a gas dryer. Either clearing that or having professional vent cleaning done will usually solve this problem. If the dryer stops heating completely tests would need to be done on internal parts to find the problem and fix the dryer. Robert, if you have any further questions or would like to set service please feel free to contact us here at Sears Home Services directly at 1-800-424-2047.

I own a Kenmore coldsport frig. ;mod.#106.64952401; serl#ET-4127354; mfg. in 2006. We have recently noted that during its opertions we will sometimes hear a knocking noise coming from the unit. We don't know at what stage of operation the noise developes, ie coming on, going off or during the cooling process of freezer or lower unit.
Does this noise indicate a problem developing or is it something we should not be concerned about?
Thank you.
Posted by walter Laurie on August 15, 2011 at 09:04 AM CDT #
Hi Walter Laurie, I'm Jon a Sears Blue Service Crew member. Walter, I know hearing that knocking noise can cause much concern. A knocking noise is usually associated with the compressor, when it shuts off. If this is what is happening, it's normal for compressors to make this noise. Some may never make this noise but others will at some point. If the motor inside the compressor gets out of balance it will hit against the frame, when the compressor quits and make the noise. Compressors shake when they quit, due to the sudden stop of pressure that has been built up in them. This is the time of the knocking noise and it doesn't mean anything is wrong or is about to go wrong. Basically, only if the unit stops working would it be an issue. Walter if you have any further questions please feel free to contact us here at Sears Home Services directly at 1-800-424-2047.

Product Type: Refrigerators and Freezers
Brand: GE
Part Description: door gaskets
Part Number: WR24X10158 & WR24X10256
Message: A couple of weeks ago I purchase two door gaskets for my
refrigerator Model PSS25NGMDBB. I removed the old gaskets and installed
the new ones. I checked to make sure they were seated properly. They
both appeared to have wrinkles in some spots on the gaskets. Because of
this they did not appear to be sealing the door well when closed. I
thought that the gaskets would relax after they were on for awhile.
After two weeks my freezer is icing up around the door and the
refrigerator appears to be losing cold air around the door. IS there a
solution to this problem or should I just return the gaskets. I would
appreciate any suggestions you can give me.

Hello Shelli. My name is Korinna and I'm with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I apologize the managemylife link is not pulling up our sister site www.managemylife.com. I'm happy to help you today. Replacing the handle on the microwave door may seem like an easy repair. However, microwaves are extremely dangerous to service if you are not a licensed qualified technician. The door will need to be disassembled to access the screws that secures the handle. That door contains essential shielding components and a microwave radiation shielding leakage test MUST be performed on the unit using proper testing equipment following this type of repair. For your safety, I strongly recommend scheduling service. I really hope this information helps you today Shelli. Question: What would cause the range to continually throw one of its two 40 amp circuit breakers even when all the burners and oven are turned off? The other circuit breaker stays on, so everything operates at 1/2 power. It's an Electrolux GLES388DS.
Posted by Del on August 24, 2011 at 07:47 PM CDT #
Valued Customer, this is Jon with the Sears Blue Service Crew. Having a properly sealed refrigerator this time of year is quite important. I'm happy to help. When a problem like this occurs it's usually best to reinstall the gasket. You should remove the gasket from the refrigerator door and soak it in hot (130-140 degrees) water for 20 minutes and reinstall it. Let the gasket seat itself for 3 to 4 hours before you worry.
Also, when you have the gasket removed clean the surface on the cabinet that the magnet touches with some warm soapy water and dry it. Removing any grease on this surface will help the gasket seal. If the problem persists returning and getting a new seal would most likely be your best option. If you have any further questions or would like to set service please feel free to contact us here at Sears Home Services at 1-800-424-2047. We're always happy to help!

This is Jon with the Sears Blue Service Crew. Del, having a properly working range is essential. I'm happy to provide some information to assist you. Hello Linda, this is Jon from the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know how important it is to have a properly working refrigerator. I'm happy to provide some information that may assist you. Without the model number it's difficult to give exact information. The information I found on the error code states that that the main control board lost a feedback signal from the icing fan motor for over 115 seconds. The error code may be cleared by disconnecting power to the refrigerator for about 3 minutes, then plugging the unit back in. The code should clear, but may come back if the icing fan does not start running.
If the error continues to come back after the power has been reset there may be ice formed around the fan housing preventing the fan from running. The next option would be to unplug the unit for 24 hours with the doors open. This will allow any ice build up on the fan to melt and return the unit to proper operation. If the problem still continues the best option would most likely be having a certified tech repair the unit. Linda if you would like to set service or have any further question please feel free to contact us here at Sears Home Services. Our phone number here is 1-800-424-2047. We're always happy to help!

I tried to wipe it off but nothing comes off. So I put a white washrag in and dried it to see if the clothes would stain and it did have marks on it. Help!! Is there anything I can do?
Posted by Mary on October 24, 2011 at 02:31 PM CDT #
Mary, this is Jon with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I can understand your concern seeing that ink on your dryer drum. I'm happy to provide some information that may assist in removing that. With the ink already on the drum it wouldn't leave any ink stains on your clothes. There are a couple of ways to remove that. The best way would be to make a paste with powder detergent and water. Apply the paste to the drum with a rag and scrub it off. Not all of it will come off but it should get most of it. Another item that may work is toothpaste. Mary, if you have any further questions please feel free to contact us here at Sears Home Services directly at 1-800-424-2047. We're here to help!

We have a Kenmore Elite Dual Fuel Range model 790.
The panel is blank and will not turn on (no error code is shown) and is ticking like a clock. Any ideas on what the problem is?
Any assistance you can provide would be helpful prior to call service.

Hello Dareld Herrera, this is Jon from the Sears Blue Service Crew. Having a properly working range is essential. I'm happy to provide some information that may assist you. The first thing to check would be your home circuit breaker to ensure it isn't tripped or blown causing the range not to properly work. Somtimes either that or the outlet could cause this. The other issue would usually be the control panel clock itself. That would need to be tested with a voltage meter to ensure there's power to the part and if it's bad. It's generally recommended a tech do the checking and replacing of that part due to the need of being grounded when handling the part. If you have any further questions of would like to set up a service call I'd recommend contacting us here at Sears Home Services directly at 1-800-424-2047. We're here to help!

Hi Jenny, I'm Jon a Sears Blue Service Crew member. I understand how important it is to have a properly working range. Most likely the range bake element itself is bad and needs to be replaced. My 22 inch snow thrower will not start. It's only 3 years old and I thought I drained the gas completely but now I'm not sure.I need some tips on diagnosing the problem.
Posted by John Catlett on November 12, 2011 at 04:57 PM CST #
Hi John Catlett. My name is Korinna and I'm with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I understand your concern with your snow thrower not starting. I'm happy to help you today. You need to decide if the problem is no fuel or no spark. Remove the spark plug and hold your finger or thumb on the hole the spark plug screws into. Get someone to pull the starter rope or engage the starter and the compression should push your finger off the spark plug hole. This will tell you the valves are operating inside the engine and you have compression.
Pour a thimble full of fuel into the hole the spark plug came out of. Quickly install the spark plug and pull the starter rope or engage the starter. The engine should try to start. This would tell you there is a spark and the engine will run if you get fuel. If the engine doesn't try to start, pour another thimble full of fuel into the cylinder. Look at the anode of the spark plug and see if it is wet. Try to start the engine again. If it still doesn't try to start, remove the spark plug and connect the ignition wire to the spark plug. Hold the bottom of the spark plug to a clean area on the engine block. Use insulated pliers or gloves to hold the spark plug to prevent shock. Get someone to pull the starter rope or engage the starter and see if you get a blue spark from the anode of the spark plug to the base of the plug. If there is no spark the ignition module on the engine is bad.
If you have spark the problem is in the fuel supply. Did you run the engine after draining the fuel to burn the fuel out of the carburetor? If not the carburetor will be clogged with the remnants of the old fuel and need to be replaced. If you ran the fuel out of the carburetor, the float is probably just stuck or the main jet needs to be cleaned. You should take the carburetor apart and clean main jet. Here is a video to help you clean the main jet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjzasttXpMU
I really hope this information helps you today John. If you have any other questions, concerns or would like to set service, contact us directly here at Sears Home Services directly at 1-800-424-2047. We will be delighted to assist you.

I have a Craftsman leaf blower and vacuum with a 2 cycle engine. It is not generating a spark. I took out the ignition module. Is there a method to bench check the igtnition module?
Thanks.
Posted by 10.236.95.26 on November 21, 2011 at 01:56 PM CST #
Valued Customer, this is Jon with the Sears Blue Service Crew. To my knowledge there is no way to test the ignition module if it is removed from the engine. You can test the continuity of the coil with an ohm meter. If it is open, it is bad. If it has some resistance it can either be good or bad. It may be best to replace the part. Parts can be purchased at www.SearsPartsDirect.com with the full model number. Service can also be performed on it by taking it to your local Sears drop off center in most stores. I hope this helps. I have a Kenmore Elite Refrigerator/Freezer. A couple of days ago I started hearing a clicking noise every couple minutes coming from what sounds like the freezer or underneath. There is cold air blowing in both the refrigerator and freezer, but it won't get cold enough to actually freeze anything. I unplugged in for 24 hours, cleaned, plugged in back in and no change. Any recommendations?

Hello Dana Newman, this is Jon from the Sears Blue Service Crew. Having a properly cooling refrigerator is important. I did some research on this problem and found this issue is likely due to a defective capacitor, start relay or a defective compressor. This type of repair is usually recommended to be done by a tech. George, I'm Korinna with the Sears Blue Services Crew. I understand your concern with the green light flashing on your Kenmore chest freezer. I'm happy to help you today. This is the power light that shows there is power to the unit. Usually, when this light starts blinking and the unit is cooling as usual, it indicates that the light is about to go out. Hello Matt Rafferty. I'm Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know it can be frustrating to have your garage door opener opening and closing on it's own in the middle of the night. I'm happy to help you today. If you have an outdoor keypad device, take the batteries out of that device. Then go to the main opener unit and locate the "learn" button on the back. Press and hold that button down until the light turns off (about 6 seconds). Now, all of the codes in the opener's memory are erased. Next, we need to program in your remotes. To do that, press and release the "learn" button. Then press and hold the button on the remote. When the lights on the opener blink you can release the button on the remote. Now you can program in the rest of your remotes following that same process.
Leave the batteries out of the keypad device. Wait several days and see if the door continues to operate on its own. If it does not, put the batteries in the keypad device and program it in. If, the problem starts back up again, the keypad device is causing the problem and will need to be replaced. If the problem does not show back, we can assume that the unit was getting a stray signal causing it to operate and it just needed to have the codes cleared. If nothing changes and the problem stays, take the wall control wires loose where they tie in on the main opener unit. If after several days you still have the problem, the logic board is bad and will need to be replaced. If doing that seems to solve the problem, you either have a bad wall control or the wires to the wall control are shorting against each other.
Another thing that can cause garage door openers to open without you using the remote or the wall switch is radio frequency (rf) interference. Be sure you don't have an old remote in a drawer or lost in the cushions of furniture that might be causing the problem. Remove the batteries from all your remotes and keyless entry and see if that stops the problem. Sometimes the logic board on the opener that is working ok will emit rf and cause the other opener to open. Disconnect the power to the good opener at night and see if that stops the problem. If the good opener is causing the other opener to open, you need to replace the logic board in the good opener.
I really hope this information helps you today Matt. If you have any other questions, concerns or if you would like to schedule service contact us here at Sears Home Services directly at 1-800-424-2047.

My oven door glass cracked. Is it just regular window glass as tempered glass would shatter?
Posted by Rick on January 03, 2012 at 12:51 PM CST #
Hi Rick. I'm Korinna a Sears Blue Service Crew member. I understand your concern with the type of glass used in the oven door. I'm happy to help you today. The glass used by manufacturers in a range is tempered glass. This type of glass is used because it is five times stronger than regular glass and can withstand high pressure and heat. Tempered glass will most likely only crack and not shatter as normal glass would.
I don't recommend using the oven without the glass in the door. This component normally helps to provide a heat shield for the outer surfaces of the oven. Operating the oven without it could cause a burn hazard. If you would like to set up a service call, an appointment can be scheduled at our website www.SearsHomeServices.com, in the blue "Scheduling is easy" section of the repair page. Once all the requested information is provided, the system will prompt you with the service fee and the available appointment dates and times for your area.

I have a craftsman 1.5 hp garage door automatic opener. A couple of days ago it started acting strange. It will open up 1/4 way but stop. It closes just fine. I am not sure why? I checked the sensor and they are fine as far as I can tell. Can you help me troubleshoot? Thanks, Phyllis P.
Posted by 10.236.95.26 on January 23, 2012 at 09:03 AM CST #
Phyllis, this is Jon with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know how frustrating it can be when you're not able to get in or out of your own garage. I have some information that may assist you. The motor has a built in force sensor which stops it from continuing if the motor has to work to hard to raise or lower the door. This is a safety feature, and is supposed to stop the door from moving if it contacts something, such as a car. On the outside of the motor, there should be 2 adjustment screws labeled "up force" and "down force" - try decreasing the sensitivity of the "up" direction. You would do this one adjustment at a time. I suspect the door is simply binding a little in the track, and the force sensor is tricked into thinking the door has hit something on the way up.
You want the sensors set so that they are "insensitive" enough to overcome any regular friction and binding, but sensitive enough to stop/reverse if the door contacts something in the way. A good test is to pull up on the door as it is coming down, or to pull down on the door as it is going up. I hope this helps. Please feel free to contact us here at Sears Home Services directly for any further questions at 1-800-424-2047. We're here to help.

Hi Mike, I'm Jon a Sears Blue Service Crew member. I know how important it is to have the cubic feet for any appliance. Due to the age of this freezer the cubic feet is not available. The best way to get this information is to measure the inside of the freezer length x height x width. You may also compare the outside measurments to newer models on www.Sears.com. I purchased a Kenmore refrigerator in 1993. The fan motor that cools the compressor is running and the compressor is running. The freezer will freeze anything that is in the basket at the very bottom of the freezer, but will not freeze anything above that point. The refrigerator is a little cooler than room temperature. There does not seem to be any leaks around the doors or, the ice door. I'm not interested in paying $65.00 for a tech to come out take a look and tell me to go buy a new refrig. or, tell me that they can fix it for $1500.00. I'm just looking for an "oh, yeah that's a typical problem with a 19 year old refrigerator and it can probably be repaired for less than $___.__ or, that's a major problem don't bother with a service call.
Can you help me?
Posted by John Semander on March 12, 2012 at 09:27 PM CDT #
Hello John Semander, I'm Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I understand your concern with wanting to know if your refrigerator is worth repairing. I'm happy to help you today.
From your description, there could be an issue with the defrost system, the freezer fan or with the sealed system. You can try defrosting the unit by cleaning everything out of both compartments, unplugging the unit and leaving the doors open over night. If the unit continues to have the same problem after plugging it back in, I would recommend having the unit replaced. Refrigerators have an average life span of 20 years and it would be more cost effective to replace the unit with a newer energy efficient model. Another reason to replace the refrigerator is due to the possibility of the parts needing to repair the unit, may no longer be available.
I really hope this information helps you today John. If you have any other questions or concerns, reply to this email or give us a call. We will be delighted to assist you.

Hello Denise T. I'm Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know it can be frustrating to not have the display working on your Kenmore microwave hood combo. I'm happy to help you today. From your description, more than likely the controller assembly will need to be replaced. I do not recommend that you attempt to repair this issue yourself. Microwaves contain high-voltage components that can retain a lethal electrical charge of up to 2200 VAC -- even when the microwave is unplugged. Repairs and adjustments, even minor ones such as door removals, can cause microwave leakage. A microwave shielding leakage test must be performed after any microwave service. It is for these safety reasons that we are unable to guide you in microwave repairs and instead recommend scheduling service with a qualified service technician.
I really hope this information helps you today Denise. If you have any other questions, concerns or to schedule service, contact us here at Sears Home Services directly at 1-800-424-2047.

Hello James. I'm Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know it can be frustrating to have the light on your microwave not come on. I'm happy to help you today. You can safely continue to use the microwave without the light coming on.
I am sorry, but we do not give repair information on microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. Door repairs and adjustments, even minor ones, can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test must be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service. Hello, I've got a Kenmore Elite front load washer that is continually tripping the breaker. If I disconnect the black wires running to the motor, it will not trip the breaker.
The motor does not turn or make a noise, the circuit just trips.
This started after I removed the drain filter to empty it out. Once I replaced it, the motor now trips the circuit.
Ideas?

Hi Kha Hollstein, I'm Jon a Sears Blue Service Crew member. The F05 code indicates a failure of the water temperature sensor error. The NTC sensor is out of range and will most likely require replacing. Remember to unplug the washer first. You can read click on the following link http://media.fotki.com/1_p,sqgwsqfrbgffbtbxgtqsskgwtqkq,vi/kkdrtqdwwxswdgbkswxsqktwdfrf/1/1303472/5961857/image27191img-or.jpg to read instructions and determine if this is a good do-it-yourself repair. If not, I would recommend contacting Sears service at 1-800-424-2047. I hope this helps.

I have a Kenmore elite dryer that is beeping. Light for control locked is flashing. Can't run dryer
Posted by Heather Scheuvront on January 11, 2013 at 02:11 PM CST #
Heather Scheuvront, I'm Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know it can be frustrating when the control locks and you aren't able to run the dryer. I'm happy to help you today. Without a complete model number, I am not able to see the model of dryer you have.
Generally, holding down the AUTO DRY LEVEL button for 3 seconds should disable the control lock. If your model does not have this button, I recommend referring to the owner's manual to the dryer for the proper instructions. If the manual has been misplaced, one can be downloaded from our sister site www.ManageMyLife.com. You will need the model number of the dryer to search for the manual.
You can also try unplugging the dryer from the outlet or switching off the designated circuit breaker for 2-3 minutes, to see if the control will unlock. If the dryer still will not unlock, it is possible the control board will need to be replaced.
I really hope this information helps you today Heather. If you have any other questions, concerns or to schedule service, contact us directly at 1-800-424-2047. We will be delighted to assist you.

I have a 14 year old Kenmoreultrawash dishwasher #8563446 that does not "read" anything but "clean" It will not allow any other buttons to register when selected on front panel. Is there a replacement part/panel I can get repairman to install?
Thanks
Posted by Lisa on January 24, 2013 at 01:16 PM CST #
Hello Lisa. This is Korinna with the Sears Blue Services Crew. I know it can be frustrating when the dishwasher won't respond to the commands you select on the panel. I'm happy to help you today. The number you provided is not being recognized in the system as a valid model number and I am not able to locate the parts list diagram for your dishwasher. The complete model number is usually on the tub around the perimeter of the door opening, not on the door itself. The model number will begin with 3 numbers followed by a period and 6-8 numbers following that. Once the model number is found, you can view the parts list diagram for your model at www.SearsPartsDirect.com.
Generally, when the clean light is blinking/flashing, it would indicate a heater circuit failure. The electronic control board did not detect the expected rise in water temperature during the water heating portion of the wash cycle. This can be caused by a failed heating element or a number of other component problems. You can carefully check the heating element for any visible signs of damage or failure. If you do not see any apparent problem, you might be able to reset this fault code by pressing the following buttons in this order (this key dance should be completed within about 5 seconds): HEATED DRY - NORMAL WASH - HEATED DRY - NORMAL WASH.
If this key dance is completed properly, all of the console lights will turn on for a few seconds and then shut off. The dishwasher will then begin a short diagnostic cycle. You can cancel this cycle with the CANCEL button. Try a test cycle and see if the heating element is working properly. If the heating element works properly and the blinking clean light does not return, you should be able to continue safely using the dishwasher. You may have received the code due to a low water level fill. Monitor the performance of the dishwasher. If the flashing clean light returns or you suspect any other problems, I recommend calling a service technician to examine the dishwasher
If the clean light is not flashing but the console does not respond, there could be an issue with the control board or control panel needing to be replaced. If you are positive of the part that is needing to be replaced, you can order them at Sears Parts Direct, then schedule service to have it installed after you have received the part.
I really hope this information helps you today Lisa. If you have any other questions, concerns or to schedule service, contact us here at Sears Home Services directly at 1-800-242-2047. We will be delighted to assist you.

I have a kenmore elite side by side refrig what does the blinking light on the inside of the freezer door mean when it blinks red twice and then a couple of sec later blinks twice again
Posted by Mickey on January 25, 2013 at 01:00 PM CST #
Mickey, I'm Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know a flashing red light in the freezer compartment can cause concern and I'm happy to help you today. Without a complete model number, I am only able to provide you with general information.
Generally, the flashing LED in the freezer is part of the optics board for the ice maker. When the door is open, if it blinks 2 times, pauses and continues this pattern while the door is open, it's working normal. If your icemaker is having issue, the flashing light will be indicating the error.
I really hope this information helps you today Mickey. If you have any other questions or concerns, contact us here at Sears Home Services directly at 1-800-424-2047. We will be delighted to assist you.

Can I use powder detergent in my LE washer?

Hi Beverly Saunders, I'm Jon a Sears Blue Service Crew member. I know how important it is to use the right detergent for your washer. You stated LE washer, I don't have any information on LE. I'm assuming your mean a HE washer or High Effiencency washer. You are able to use HE powder detergent but it is recommended you use liquid HE detergent. I do hope this helps. We have a new Kenmore dishwasher that is not working correctly. The problem is there is alway residue soap suds left in the bottom after the wash cycles completed. We have been trying different things to get it to work correctly but have had no luck so far. We've cut back on the amount of soap and have checked the filter but find no problems there. We've talked to Sears on the phone and they told us the bottom should be clear after the dishwasher is done and have recommended using less soap but that hasn't made any difference either. Can you offer any suggestions?
Posted by David Sadler on March 08, 2013 at 11:36 AM CST #
Hello David Sadler. This is Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. Oversudsing in the dishwasher can cause some concern. I'm happy to help you today.
If the problem is only excessive suds, I recommend adding 2-3 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the dishwasher. The vegetable oil causes the suds to break down and turn back to liquid in order to get all the soap rinsed and drained out. To get rid of the suds pour vegetable oil into the tub and start the dishwasher and after it begins to wash, press cancel and let it complete the pump out. Repeat if necessary to get rid of the suds. Be sure not to add any dishes to this cycle.
If the dishwasher is 10 years old I'd suggest using a product called Dishwasher Magic. It's a tub cleaner but it will break down the build up of sediments and soaps and sanitize the dishwasher. Over timer detergents and hard water mineral deposits build up in the dishwasher and affect cleaning.
The Dishwasher Magic is part number WX10X10200 and can be obtained from www.SearsPartsDirect.com. It can also be found at the local grocery store in the dishwashing soap aisle.
Excessive soap can also be caused by a poor pump system on the dishwasher. If the vegetable oil and Dishwasher Magic do not help with the suds, service may be needed.
I really hope this information helps you today David. If you have any other questions, concerns or to schedule service, contact us here at Sears Home Services directly at 1-800-424-2047.

My whirlpool microwave mh7130xeq2 stopped heating. While being used the plug came loose. When I plugged it back in it would not heat. Every thing else works. Could it be a fuse?
Posted by bill wahl on March 19, 2013 at 07:21 PM CDT #
Hello Bill Wahl. I'm Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know it can be frustrating when the microwave stops heating. I'm happy to help you today.
There are many different internal failures that could prevent the microwave from heating. You could have a failed control board, a bad high voltage transformer, a bad high voltage diode, a failed magnetron, a bad control board or a wiring failure. A service technician would need to diagnose the microwave to determine the exact cause of the failure.
Microwaves are inherently dangerous to service. Internal capacitors can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is unplugged. A microwave radiation leakage test must be performed on the unit following any repair. It is for these safety reasons, that I strongly recommend having a technician come out to repair this issue.
Due to the age of the unit (1999) you may consider replacing the microwave instead of repairing it, as it would be more cost effective. I provided a link to the new model microwaves that Sears.com offers.

I have a kenmore stove, that oven want lite, what will stop the oven from litein? It's a gas stove.
Posted by drew on April 04, 2013 at 06:49 AM CDT #
Hi Drew, I'm Jon a Sears Blue Service Crew member. Having a properly working range is important. I'm happy to help. The most likely causes of the oven not working are a bad igniter, faulty gas valve, or if both bake and broil aren't working then the electronic control board is the issue. These would need to be tested to check what is causing the issue. I would suggest having a tech do the testing to determine the issue. Dealing with any gas repair is dangerous. If you would like to set Sears service please feel free to contact us at 1-800-424-2047 for assistance.

I have a Kenmore Self-Cleaning Gas Range. The burners work but the oven does not, it shows a code of E1 -F1-. What does this code mean?
Posted by Janet Bibo on April 08, 2013 at 02:30 PM CDT #
Hello Janet Bibo. I'm Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know error codes can cause some concern and I am happy to help you today. Without a complete model number, I am not able to see the model of range that you have. Generally the E1 F1 error code indicates an EEPROM checksum failure, meaning the electronic oven control board will need to be replaced.
You can try resetting the unit by disconnecting it from the outlet or by switching off the designated circuit breaker for 2-3 minutes. Restore the power and observe the operation of the unit to see if the error code returns. If it doesn't, more than likely the control board will need to be replaced. Parts can be purchased from www.SearsPartsDirect.com. You will need the complete model number of the range to access the parts list diagram for your model.
I really hope this information helps you today Janet. If you have any other questions, concerns, or to schedule service, contact us here at Sears Home Services directly at 1-800-424-2047.

GE Profile over range microwave, purchased 2009, mfgd 2007, Model #PVM1870SM1SS. We purchased a full set of profile appliances -- micro, range, fridge, dishwasher -- thought we purchased 5 year master protection on all, but micro not showing up in agreement., do you not offer 5 year protection on those?
In any case, it just stopped heating, and when it did so, began to hear a louder hum/buzz when on. All power seems to work, all other functions work, won't heat.
In your experience ... an easy fix? Or replacement required?
Posted by Mark Levy on April 19, 2013 at 10:11 AM CDT #
Mark Levy, I'm Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know it can be fustratng when the microwave stops heating. I'm happy to help you today. Normally, when the microwave stops heating, the magnetron will need to be replaced. You can try resetting the unit by disconnecting it from the outlet or by swiching off the designated circuit breaker for 2-3 minutes, then restore the power.
It is for these safety reasons that I strongly recommend having this repair handled only by a qualified service technician.
A couple factors that you might consider when making your decision to have the microwave repaired or replaced are that microwaves have an average lifespan of 10 years and the magnetron alone, can run around $150. If you choose to repair the microwave, you might be looking at half the price of a new unit.
In regarding to the protection agreement for microwaves, we offer one, three or five year plans. For more information on the protection agreements, please contact the Warranty department at 1-800-827-6655.
I really hope this information helps you today Mark. If you have any other questions, concerns or if you would like to schedule a service call, contact us here at Sears Home Services directly at 1-800-424-2047.

Just moved my 2007 GE Profile refrigerator to another house and when I plugged it back in it would not start back up. The lights come on. is there a switch somewhere?
Posted by Denise Wiss on April 24, 2013 at 01:38 PM CDT #
Hello Denise Wiss. I'm Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know it can be frustrating to have your GE Profile refrigerator not start up after moving the refrigerator. I'm happy to help you today. Without a complete model number, I am only able to provide you with general information.
When you moved the refrigerator, was it transported on its side or back? If you had to tilt it or lay the refrigerator down, you will need to leave the refrigerator in the upright position without plugging it in for 24 hours. Placing a refrigerator on it's back can cause the oil from the compressor to drain out into the cooling system.
Refrigerators do not have a reset switch. If the unit was moved in the upright position and there is no cooling, there could be an issue with the air flow or the sealed system. Another possibility could be that the unit is in DEMO mode. Depending on your model, you can press and hold the lock and measured fill buttons for 3 seconds at the same time. If the display on your model does not have these keys, there may be a different process to disable the DEMO mode.
I really hope this information helps you today Denise. If you have any other questions, concerns, or if you would like to schedule service, contact us here at Sears Home Services directly at 1-800-424-2047.

Stacy B., I'm Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I know it can be frustrating when the refrigerator will not operate properly. I'm happy to help you today. From your description, more than likely the refrigerator is in the showroom mode. To cancel this mode press Lighting and Freezer Temp buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds until a "ding-dong" sound is heard. If the refrigerator will not come out of the showroom mode after holding the two buttons down, it is possible there may be an issue with the control board.

Hi Vince Millan. I'm Korinna with the Sears Blue Service Crew. I understand your concern with the keypad to the older garage door opener being compatible with your new garage door opener. I'm happy to help you today.
Without the model number of the garage door opener, I am not able to see if the two would be compatible. However, more than likely the old keypad will not be compatible with your new unit. The old keypad is showing it was made in 2003. This keypad will only work with garage door openers older than 2011. If your new garage door opener is a 2011 model or newer, you will need to purchase a new keypad. A key pad can be purchased from www.Sears.com.
